I remember the first time I shot a YouTube video. I was very nervous and sweated like crazy. My nervousness made me stutter, and by the end I looked like I had drunk too much beer the night before.
This video has now been deleted long ago (thank goodness), but I’ve since figured out what makes a good YouTube video. What can you do to make a good impression on camera? How to make the final video as high quality as possible?
Stylish Look
You might think this is an easy task, but in the beginning I never bothered to comb my hair or even shave. While watching other YouTube videos, many other people don’t even think about it.
There is nothing wrong with having a beard – I have one. But the main thing is to look well-groomed and presentable. Don’t create a homeless atmosphere. At the very least, you can comb your hair, put on clean clothes and look good overall. You don’t want to hurt the kids.
Use a decent video camera (app)
This may be a point of controversy with some of you, but I would say that you do not need to buy an expensive camcorder. Your smartphone’s camera will be more than enough.
In fact, I would even say that your smartphone’s camera is superior to many conventional camcorders. Signal to the bloodthirsty vigilantes.
However, the default camera app on a smartphone is a bit limited. If you have a budget, try to find a good video app. I highly recommend the awesome FiLMiC Pro, available for both iOS and Android.
It only costs $ 14.99 and is a very profitable investment in my opinion. It takes a little learning to get the most out of this, but your videos will look great.
Place the camera on a tripod
If there is anything that screams “ amateur! â€during the video feed, it is a picture that juggles up and down like a squirrel to methamphetamine. The picture must be absolutely smooth, and for this you need to put the camera on a tripod.
I have one, similar to the one pictured above, and its advantage is that it can sit on a table or someone else can hold a tripod, which is easier than holding a phone. It also frees up your hands if you need them during the video.
Decent lighting rigging
Earlier this year, I shot what I thought was great streaming video. But, to my horror, I later learned that the lighting was absolutely terrible. I looked like a serial killer lurking in a dark alley.
There are two solutions for this. Alternatively, stand in front of a window in direct sunlight. Or buy a mini LED light like the one above. It is technically designed to connect to a DSLR camera, but you can also place it on a smooth surface next to your camcorder to illuminate your surroundings.
Make sure you are connected to audio
So, you look good, the camera is stable, and the lighting is top-notch. But can people hear you? This was another blunder that I found myself in during what I thought was a noisy YouTube performance. I whispered so softly that only deaf readers could understand.
Video creators take one of two paths here. You can have either an overhead microphone or a suitable desktop microphone such as the great Blue Yeti Christian recently described some of the best microphones on the market, one of which is the Yeti.
Besides the microphone, you will also need a pop filter that removes unintentional noise from your voice. This makes your voice smoother and easier to understand. The difference in sound quality is huge.
Practice your words beforehand (or use Teleprompter)
Finally, the best advice to keep in mind is to rehearse what you want to say beforehand. There is nothing worse than making your viewers listen to you stutter and stutter like Hugh Grant. It might be loved by the fans, but if you do, the audience will turn it off.
