6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen

6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen.
Use your iPhone for a while and you’ll end up with tons of icons on multiple home screen pages. Not only does it make everything a mess, but finding or searching for specific applications also becomes a chore. The longer you put off controlling the home screen, the worse it gets.
Luckily, your iPhone’s home screen pages are not the rigid grid of icons they appear to be. You can move apps, organize them into folders, put icons in the app library, and do a lot of other things to clean up the chaos.
6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen
If you’re new to the iPhone, here are the best ways to take control of your home screen. Longtime users might also find a couple of interesting tidbits.

1. Reorder applications

But first, you must enter wiggle mode. The quickest way to do this is to press and hold an empty space on the iPhone home screen. Or press and hold any icon and then select Edit Home Screen.
Once everything on the screen starts shaking, you can move the apps. Here’s how to do it:

  • Move the application to the right or one line below – drag the icon to the right of the position you want it to occupy.
  • Move the application to the left or one line up – drag the icon to the left of the position it should be.

You can also move the app icon between iPhone home screen pages. Drag it to the edge of the screen and your iPhone will automatically switch to the next page. Then keep dragging it to the desired position and release your finger.
Since the first page of the home screen consists of standard apps that you are unlikely to ever use, consider replacing them with apps from other pages.

Finally, don’t forget the iPhone dock. You can replace any of the four default apps in it (Phone, Safari, Messages, and Music). However, you must first pull the icon out of the dock to free up space before entering another icon.
To exit wiggle mode, tap Done in the upper right corner of the screen.

2. Group applications into folders

After spending time creating several folders, you can group applications in any way that suits you. You may already see a few pre-made folders on your iPhone, but here’s how to create your own.
Enter wiggle mode and then drag one app onto another and hold for a second. This should immediately create a folder with both applications inside.

Depending on the two apps, your iPhone may automatically add an appropriate name for the folder. You can change it to whatever you want.

Then you can start dragging and dropping apps into the folder. Just like the iPhone home screen, a folder can have multiple pages, so you can install as many apps as you like.
To delete a folder, pull all applications out of it. Similar to app icons, you can also move folders around the home screen.

3. Go to Application Library

The App Library, which you can access by swiping left from the last page of the home screen, lists each app on your iPhone in several predefined categories (Utilities, Social, Creative, etc.). It will also help you get rid of the clutter on your iPhone’s home screen.
Start by long pressing any app icon. In the context menu, click Remove Application. Instead of uninstalling an app, you can only uninstall it from the home screen. To do this, select “Move to Application Library” or “Remove from Home Screen” (which appears for certain native applications).
6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen
You can access applications you uninstall in this way in the Application Library. Alternatively, you can use the search function (swipe down on the home screen) on your iPhone to get to them.
You can also install new apps without showing them on the home screen. To do this, open the iPhone Settings app, tap Home, and select App Library Only.

However, you can add any app back to your home screen whenever you want. Find an app in the app library, press and hold it, and then tap Add to Home Screen.
If you can’t find the App Library on your iPhone, you’ll need to update to iOS 14 or later.

4. Stack Multiple Tools

Your iPhone allows you to add widgets to your home screen. You can do this by going to the widget gallery (tap + in the upper left corner of the screen in wiggle mode). In addition, widgets can be moved from Today view to the Home screen and vice versa. Like app icons, you can move them within or between home screen pages.
However, adding multiple widgets can quickly clutter up your home screen. This is where overlaying widgets helps save screen space. Just drag any widget of the same size onto another and release to fold.

Up to 10 widgets can be added to one stack. Then swipe up or down to view the widgets. The stack also automatically rotates widgets based on usage patterns.
6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen
If you want to edit a widget stack, press and hold it and select “Edit Stack”. Then you can change the stack order or remove unneeded widgets by swiping to the left.
Alternatively, you can insert a pre-built widget stack, called smart stack, from the widget gallery.

5. Hide Home Screen Pages

Did you know that you can hide entire home screen pages on your iPhone? This is a great way to quickly remove an unkempt home screen, especially if you have multiple pages of non-essential apps.
Enter wiggle mode and tap the strip of dots above the dock. Then uncheck the pages you want to hide.
6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen
You can hide pages in any order, but iOS forces you to leave at least one remaining page. Click Finish to save your changes.
If you want to open an app from a hidden home screen page, just use the App Library or iPhone’s search function.

6. Use the app suggestion tool

App Suggestions is a Siri widget that automatically displays relevant apps using machine learning.
Go to the widget gallery, tap Siri Suggestions, select App Suggestions, and then tap Add Widget to add it. Unlike other widgets, app suggestions merge with the rest of the home screen icons after exiting wiggle mode.
6 Techniques to Organize iPhone Home Screen
Since the App Suggestions Widget gives you quick access to the apps you use most often, you can shorten common app icons and keep the number of iPhone home screen pages to a minimum. You can also add (or stack) multiple app suggestion widgets.

iPhone Manager

If you spend a couple of minutes managing the home screen, the iPhone will be much easier to navigate. Remember to combine all of the above techniques to create a personal space that really suits you.
