1 – Calculated Industries 8300 KitchenCalc Recipe Conversion and Culinary Math Calculator with Digital Timer for Chefs, Culinary Students, Home Cooks and Bakers | Scale Recipes, Menu Plans, Portion Sizes

The Calculator is a life savor in a lot of ways, but be careful when using the dry oz function. The default setting is 8 1/3 oz which converts to 236.6 grams This can be a big problem. If your Recipe calls for a 1 cup of flour the correct weight is 4 1/2 oz which converts to 127.6 grams. USDA weight per 1 cup of flour = 125 gram, so there is some wiggle room. I’am giving this a 4 star ratting due to the dry oz to grams issue. .
I bought one of these back sometime around 2003. I loved it. It worked wonderfully and only required one battery change in almost 10 years! But then it finally died but I got more than my money’s worth out of it.6 months ago I ordered another one. It looked the same but I noticed that the alarm was much quieter and the LCD display would dim when I turned one of the timers on. After a week or so, the display became so dim it was unreadable. I thought perhaps the battery was bad so I replaced it. It helped a bit but within another week it was unusable again.Giving the Calculated Industries the benefit of the doubt – manufacturing errors can occur – I threw the 2nd one away and ordered a new one.The new one is working somewhat better but the display still dims when a timer is turned on and the alarms are barely audible. One manufacturing error is a mistake, two are a pattern. At least the battery isn’t draining on a weekly basis.Pros: Dual timers are incredibly useful for cooking. The big display (when readable) is great when you’re in a hurry. The conversion and scaling features are immensely valuable if you cook for two but only find recipes for 4 or more.Cons: Manufacturing and quality control have gone downhill. Alarms are inaudible around any kind of noise (fans, TV, talking). The display dims when keys are pressed and stay dim when timers are activated.Overall: I still use it because I haven’t found any other dedicated device with such a nice set of features. So, two stars for good design but poor execution. There are apps for iOS and Android that can be used on smartphones and tablets but these aren’t ideal in a kitchen where they can be contaminated by liquids and foods on the fingers. Plus, the apps close when the device sleeps and it’s annoying to have to keep entering the wake-up code to deal with the timers. .
I saw this calculator as a deal, and I didn’t understand why the original price was expensive. Then, I was a little skeptical and didn’t know if I needed it, I figured I could just continue converting online or on a normal calculator. I WAS SO WRONG! I am so happy I bought this, especially in time for Christmas baking. I use it all the time in the kitchen, and sometimes for other circumstances. I felt like a nerd, but I did read the little manual that comes with it, because I was a little confused and there is a lot of helpful information in there. This calculator can truly do so much and I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who ever needs to convert recipes or get teaspoons to cups, or whatever! .
Not only for cooking & baking. Comes in handy for kids just starting out with fractions in math. Really helped my daughter who struggles in math. She no longer needs the calculator in math. I think the visual effect of seeing the fractions on the screen really helped. .

2 – SE 2-Piece Stainless Steel SAE and Metric Ruler Set with Detachable Clips – 925PSR-2
Top Reviews
This is an engineers / machinist’s ruler. The pocket clip on this type of ruler is essential for making and transfering accurate measurements. The clip on this ruler is useless. It looks like someone bent it to fit with a pair of pliers. The depth gauge should slide easily and be perfectly 90degrees to the ruler. On this one it flops around plus or minus 20 degrees. I bought a similar Johnson ruler from another vendor. While the Johnson isn’t perfect it is 3x better than this one. On the Johnson, the clip slides better, stays closer to 90degrees and the ruler itself is twice as thick. This is just a cheap imitation stamped out of the lowest cost materials possible. The only reason that I gave it two stars is that the measurement stamping are accurate if all you need is a basic flat ruler. .
Years ago my I received a stainless steel SAE 6 ruler from my Dad after enrolling for Drafting 101 in high school. He was a draftsman and always had rulers, templates, etc around the house while I was growing up and all my siblings learned how to draw while toddlers. Years after giving me this incredibly useful ruler, it was lost during a move from Europe. I’ve been searching for a replacement for nearly a dozen years and still haven’t found one as useful as that ruler he gave me back in the 1980’s.This item is no replacement. The first thing I noted when it arrived was how thin and flexible the rulers are. It’s very thin, making it difficult to pick up from a flat surface. It would probably take a bit of force to bend it permanently, but I have noticed it’s begun to ‘spring when I place it on a flat surface like a drawing board or even a good desk. As others have also mentioned, the pocket clip is worthless. My original had a clip that was nearly impossible to slide up and down the rule. When I did move it, I could feel little clicks for every increment on the ruler. The clip for this one might simply fall off, as it freely slides up and down the scale.I’m guessing there are a bunch of older drafters who remember these slick little rulers and hoped they possessed the same quality as they remembered from years ago before the advent of CAD when most drafters and engineers carried rulers because prototyping involved making an actual prototype. .
Precisely made although edges are still sharp from minimal deburring. The slider prongs are crudely bent in place and doesn’t slide easily as one of my older rulers does. I’ll have to carefully rebend to attach properly. The SAE ruler is really only marked off in 1/32″ resolution on both edges. However, there is a 1/2″ long section in the middle marked off in 1/64″ increments. The only numerical markings along the rule are whole inch marks for the SAE rule and 10 mm marks on the metric rule. The rulers have a low nickel content and are highly attracted to magnets.—This evaluation was done by a Professional Engineer .
The pocket clip was crimped too tightly and the ears broke when I tried to loosen them. I left a message for the seller and the seller imediately shipped out a replacement set that worked fine. An inexpensive measuring tool that won’t cause tears when I inevitiably lose it. Good seller. .

3 – Mr. Pen House Plan, Interior Design and Furniture Templates, Drafting Tools and Ruler Shapes for Architecture – Set of 3

As an interior designer these tools come very handy. You can move around furniture, kitchen or bathroom appliances without actually moving them. Just need to make sure you have the correct scale.I have used several of this kind of tools before, this would have cost me way above 20$ to get all these 3 pieces. These templates are a bargain. .
I have zero things I can find wrong with this product. It arrived on time, packaged appropriately and was perfect for my needs fir a craft project and will definitely be used for my future home renovations. But my son is also an artist and was a SEABEE in the Navy for 6 years and is always helping friends and family with remodeling projects etc. So I will be either passing this on to him or who knows?! I might just buy another set for him and keep these for anymore future art projects of my own. 😉ðŸ‘ðŸ‘👠I loved them. Very versatile! .
These templates are a great tool to teach children shapes and fine motor skills. I use these with my grandchildren in our art class teaching them to draw common figures such as houses, city maps, animals, dinosaurs. .
I bought these templates for a coworker. The price is really good and so is the product. We are licensed architects using AutoCAD most of the day to produce our drawings electronically. My coworker likes to do her floor plan tinkering with a pen or pencil on tracing paper. These templates will save her a lot of time and help make sure that everything fits within a space. I will be ordering another set or two. One for myself and one for a family member to use. .
