I’m never the most successful at growing my vegetable garden so I bought this tool to help monitor some common soil metrics. I was happy to find that the pH of my soil is just about right for tomato and vegetable growing. I do think that I am over-watering my plants though so I will need to make adjustments to my watering schedule. This tool is simple to use and effective. I know they say to wait several minutes before taking your reading but it does seem to be pretty instantaneous at telling me soil conditions. I’m hopeful that better monitoring will help my gardening success. I wish I had bought it earlier in the season. .
I am not a person who has a natural green thumb, so I need all the help I can get. Wow! This super-cool gauge helps so much! Right out of the box, it showed me that I’m overwatering my planters. I have no idea how the device works, but you just stick into the soil down to the roots of the plants, and the device gives you an immediate reading. This is a huge help for me! My plants will be healthier and thrive longer for a minimal amount of $$. If you’re not a green thumb either, I highly recommend this small yet effective gauge. .
The is really an amazing Soil Ph Meter! for the price it comes at… I did not think it would have this much functionality. For this price, I was assuming that I would only be able to measure the ph of the soil. And as a bonus i can check my plants and can see if they need water This is a MUST HAVE if you are a gardener! Or have house plants. .
This thing works as advertised. I was a little concerned about the negative reviews on the PH part of this meter so I bought a stand alone PH meter. The PH meter on this tool is accurate and measured exactly the same when measured against the stand alone PH meter. It is just a little bit harder to read as it is at the very bottom of the scale. The moisture and sun light scales are much easier to read as they are up higher on the face. So do not let the negative reviews sway you if you just want an inexpensive, do it all meter for the non-professional. .

I laid new Bermuda grass in April and put new soil and tall fescue just two weeks ago. The flowers I’ve planted in the flower beds along the way. One has succeeded and the other has been a garden of death and that was the reason for buying this soil tester.I want to show everyone what I received out of the box. I got home and went straight to the yard because my sprinkler system had just watered and the soil was loose. I have a small screwdriver that I initially used to make the holes to insert the probes.I soon found they were not as fragile as people claim and only had to use it in a couple areas. But, I do recommend using the screwdriver method in case you have rocky or clay lawns. You have to use common sense. If it doesn’t slide smoothly into the ground, why force it in. As for the rest, the pictures I uploaded speak for themselves. Every area was a little bit different and most importantly, I got a great overall picture of what is happening with my lawn and garden areas. I don’t need to use this until I make amendments and if this only last me one year, at 16 bucks I’ll gladly purchase another for next year. I will also be doing professional soil tests this year as I get more serious about the main and garden but this is a new house and new sod so this is a great start. I am accumulating more professional equipment along the way but this soil tester is no slouch and I don’t see it giving me a problem as long as I take care of it just as I would a professional tool. This helps me with my garden. Now I know if I need to water my vegetables or not. The nice th8nag about it is that it can also measure the ph of my soil as well as the strength of the light my plants are getting in a particular spot. No more guessing for me. Highly recommended if you are into gardening. .

Having paid twice to send off soil samples at a decent cost, I was hesitant to buy something this cheap, but I wanted something to check PH in the large container and raised garden beds I have. So I chanced it on this and tried it out in my already tested ground soils from the same location that I sent in two previous sample. While it is hard to read it exactly like those given the scale, I find it to be pretty much right on. My two previous tests came in at 6.4 and 6.6 and from what I can tell from this little gadget it is right there in that range. . I bought this for the PH function and don’t really care about the light and moisture functions. I’d say give it a try, you can always return it. I’m pleased. .

I just received this meter, and like so many other reviewers I thought it was a piece of junk due to the ph registering 70 on every soil test I made. Even read this when I mixed 30% acetic acid (vinegar) with the soil. Read 70 when i tested peat moss mixed with a lot of moisture. Then I read a couple of reviewers who said you needed to rub the points and sensors hard with an abrasive. One person said that the only thing that worked for him was using a wire brush. Well .that is exactly what worked for me!! I cleaned the probes and then scrubbed with a wire brush for about a minute and –VOILA: as soon as I then took the meter and tested the acidic solutions that had registered zero they jumped to acidic. The peat moss was 4.5, which is normal, and the vinegar mud was the lowest it could register. My container plants with roses, which need a pH of 6-6.5, are now registering 6.5-7 and I will only need to amend the soil slightly on some. Thanks so much to reviewers who have taken the time to give these quick fix instructions. I am happy with this product now. I just think the manufacturer needs to amend their instructions. .
Go for this tester. Before i made this purchase, I looked up online to see which brand has the best soil ph meter, and I found a page that recommends Sonkir soil ph meter. The price is very reasonable for its high quality .
 This device is amazing. I bought it after my gardenia plant wasnt blooming. Come to realize that I was overwatering and my plant never recovered. Since then, I’ve taken home 2 amaryllis plants from work that has never ever grew. I replanted them and used this device to make sure that I was watering properly and my plants are thriving! It’s a real plant saver. I even got a monstera as well. And I should note, I usually don’t have a green thumb and kill plants easily! .
Easy to use. Does not require batteries. It has helped me from killing my succulents and cacti for the last few months. I really like this product for its simplicity and the fact that I never have to replace the batteries. 10/10 would buy again. .

This product is easy to use and pretty accurate.Just to give you some background on me and why I can support that claim- I am an Environmental scientist and hopefully soon to be Professional Soil Scientist (once I pass some exams). So this is why I say it’s pretty accurate. I tested my yard and flower beds. Because of my profession, I have access to a soil probe. I took multiple samples across the yard between 6-12” deep and submitted that as 1 composite sample and did the same for my flower beds. I submitted these samples to the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension (i’m In Houston, Tx) and I just got results back. (They are very affordable and will even consult with you about results)First, let me tell you what this test kit told me.It told me my Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorous (P) is depleted, I maxed out on the Potassium (K) and my pH was at maximum of at least 7.5.My actual soil results confirmed I have 0 ppm Nitrate-N, very little P at 5 ppm, K reported at 108 ppm but does not exceed the “high” or Critical Level and my pH is at 8.0.I would say that considering how cheap this kit is, it was pretty accurate certainly gave me enough information to steer me in the right direction.Now I just need to apply my hard earned knowledge in Soil Fertility to real life, instead of just theory. =) I hope this information helped someone feel More confident in using this kit.*Update- I passed one of my exams and am now a Certified Professional Soil Scientist. Had to brag on myself I’m so excited, yay me! .

We originally tested 3 points in a new 40×60 plot we had just cleared. We expected it to be very acidic and depleted of nearly all nutrients, as the plot had no worms and had acid-loving weeds growing in it. All points were very similar; pH very low, N beyond depleted, P depleted to deficient, and K beyond surplus. K was surprising, but the rest were right as expected, except that the N test stayed clear (not pink at all). We followed the recommendations to get it closer to correct, assuming the results to be accurate (lime, triple superphosphate, nitrate of soda), even going beyond the maximum amount they recommend in one dose. After a few good rain storms, we tested the soil again at the same spots. The potash/K was the same, pH seemed to have moved 1 point as expected, P seemed slightly better (barely adequate), but the N test was still completely clear. So, as a verification test, we dissolved a small scoop of 55% nitrogen into an equal amount of water and tested that still clear. Apparently a very high concentration of nitrogen in distilled water is depleted? This throws the whole kit into question. Would not recommend. .
Most negative reviews say that pH and N test results are not good, where PH is always neutral and Nitrogen is always depleted, some have actually said that they tried even adding vinegar and pH would still be 7 and such. It is a cheap kit so I bought one, I tested my soil and guess what, I got pH neutral and N depleted, actually N test chamber was very clear without any color like fresh water. So I done another test, only adding a few drops of lemon juice to the pH test chamber, and a solution of uria (48-0-0) to the N test chamber instead of soil water, and after some good shaking, the pH was yellow and the N was purpule, I have attached a picture and you can see for yourself. When this test kit tells you the pH is neutral it really is, and when it tells you have no nitrogen you really don’t, and you better be spraying a whole lot of it till you get it to “adequate” level. .

After both my wireless Acurite and LaCrosse anemometers failed, I decided to buy the HoldPeak 866B hand-held unit to calibrate a hard-wired anemometer I am building using an Arduino Mega connected to the mechanical parts of my defunct Acurite.The box containing the HoldPeak had one corner that was crushed. Fortunately, the unit itself, which was in a sealed plastic bag, was undamaged. The attached photos show all that was included – the unit, the zippered carrying case, the lanyard that screws into the tripod mounting hole, and the instruction sheet.Of course the unit would not power up right out of the box because the two included AAA batteries were wrapped in plastic. I used a jeweler’s Phillips screwdriver to remove the two small screws holding the battery compartment cover. The cover itself required a knife blade to pry it out. Removed and unwrapped the batteries then reinstalled them. The unit now powered up.I found the included, bare-bones instructions somewhat ambiguous regarding the use of the MAX/MIN and AVG (average) buttons, I had assumed, based on the skimpy instructions, that after you completed a measurement, you could switch between MAX and MIN and see those two wind speeds displayed. Finally figured out that is not how they work. What the instructions don’t say is to get the MAX wind speed, you first must press the MAX/MIN button so that MAX appears on the display. Then do your measurement. When you are finished, the display will show the maximum speed and hold it until you either turn the unit off, hit the MAX/MIN or AVG buttons, or take another measurement where the wind speed exceeds that shown on the display from the first measurement. I like this feature.You can take a reading without the MAX icon showing and, after you finish, hit the MAX button but the reading will not be the max speed that occurred but some lesser speed,Why the MIN (minimum) wind speed feature was included is beyond me. Because, let’s face it, every measurement you make is going to have a zero minimum. And that is exactly what is shown (0.0) every time you begin a reading with the MIN icon showing on the display.Use of the AVG feature is also rather hokey. Before you do a measurement, you have to press the AVG button so that icon is displayed. Then make your measurement. The display will show the actual wind speed until you stop. Then the speed that is displayed will decrease to some value (probably the average) and hold there for about 5 seconds then begin to decrease down to zero. The only thing the instructions say about this is – average reading in 15 seconds will be displayed.Despite the lack of detailed instructions on how to use the MAX/MIN and AVG features, I found the wind speed measurements to be quite accurate. I tested the unit several times at different speeds by holding it out of my car window with MAX showing on the display. As I drove, I kept an eye on my speedometer to note the maximum speed I attained. When I stopped and checked the reading, it was right on what my speedometer indicated. At least it was accurate up to a speed if 32 miles per hour, which is the fastest I have tested it so far. The instruction sheet indicates that the speed accuracy is +/- 5%, which appears to be true. The next time I hit the highway, I’ll check it out at 65 mph.Also displayed at the bottom is the air temperature, which is switchable between °C and °F. The unit apparently has a wind chill feature that only works when the temperature of the unit goes below 0 degrees C (32 F). Again the instructions are vague on the subject. I had to go back to Amazon’s listing of the unit to learn that, when the air temp is below 32F, the temperature reading changes from the actual air temp to the wind chill value. Being in Florida, I don’t think I will ever have the opportunity to check it out. I’ll leave that up to the poor devils up north.Another feature I like is the switchable backlight. Great for checking wind speeds at night.Finally, the bottom line is that the HoldPeak 866B does what I bought it for – to have an inexpensive hand-held anemometer that will measure wind speeds with some degree of accuracy. .
This is a great unit. It almost deserves 5 stars. Before I bought the HoldPeak, I purchased an Ori-Glam. The Ori-Glam was a disappointment because the vane did not work. This HoldPeak has an excellent vane on it that is well-protector from damage.Note as in other reviews that you have to know that the battery has to be removed and the plastic removed from it before the unit will work. I’ve seen a couple of reviewers say the unit did not work out of the box. They probably didn’t realize the plastic was on the batteries. You’ve got to open it with a screwdriver and take that plastic off.The one main thing that can be improved on this unit is the backlight timer. It’s so frustrating that the backlight goes off after a mere 15 seconds. You can’t adjust the interval either. Because I mount my unit on a stick and hold it up to overhead air ducts to read the output there is never much time to actually read the meter. Having the backlight stay on would really help.Okay, there’s one more thing too. The instructions are almost comically sparse. And the numbers on the diagram do not match the numbers in the operation section. You’re kidding me, right? Couldn’t you find an American to check the instruction set? A native speaker could have improved these instructions with 30 minutes of effort.Overall, I’m very happy. I’m just saying the manufacturer could make a few tweaks and earn 5 stars. This is essentially an excellent meter. .
I bought this as a way to find out if my drone will be flying in too strong of winds. And even though this is kinda big. A lot bigger thanthe others it is very accurate. As long as your directly in the path of the wind. This will totally keep me from flying in too strong of wind.Would recommend this for any drone pilot. .
I have a common complaint with all of these inexpensive anemometers. Although the name HOLDPEAK implies the device will hold the min/max/avg wind speeds, as soon as you toggle to another setting it loses that value. For example, I set it to MAX and as one would expect, it shows max wind speed. I then switch to AVG hoping it would have measured the AVG windspeed at the same time. Nope, it does not record that value, it has to start from scratch. After viewing the AVG windspeed, I go back to MAX and sure enough its back to zero. I have to start from scratch to get a MAX windspeed. It does not HOLD anything. So if you think you will be able to compare AVG to MAX windspeeds during a similar time frame, forget it. Everytime you go to another function, the previous function’s windspeed is cleared. As long as you are content to only get MIN/MAX/AVG windspeeds, one function at a time, it works fine. But its a very basic unit in that regard. Still a good value for the money. .

So, my lawn is pretty crappy, and I’ve tried for YEARS to grow grass, with no real success. SO, I finally decided to get a tester to see if that maybe my soil is the issue. This seemed like a good deal, and even though all I NEEDED was a PH test, this one would tell me about sun exposure too. (Soil wetness seems like a dumb thing. It’s easy to tell if the soil is friggin’ wet or not). SO, I stick it in the ground, 2-4 inches in the most troublesome spot of my lawn and walk away for about 10 minutes. I come back to find that my lawn is a solid 7 on the scale; very alkaline. Ok .I’ve got a diagnosis. So, as the instructions say, I try it on several spots on my lawn, again, leaving the tester for about 10 minutes each time. Another relatively bare patch about 20 feet away; solid 7. Ok, repeatable data. Lets try another .a grassy spot, where grass grows perfectly; solid 7. Not a mm of movement on the needle. Ok .how about another .solid 7. In fact, EVERY SINGLE SPOT on my lawn I tested was a solid 7 on the scale. Now, I’m willing to concede that I have an alkaline lawn, but not a SINGLE movement, anywhere? Shouldn’t one spot be maybe a 6 or an 8? SO, I bring this thing inside and plunk it down in my indoor house plants; with their perfectly balanced, bag mixed, store bought potting soil 10 minutes later, wanna guess what the reading was? Solid 7. I now believe that the reader is either broken, or inoperable (aka broken). I’m convinced this thing is either damaged, or junk. Either way, I would say hold on to your money. It avoids 1 star because I can’t be SURE that its broken, but 7 different spots, both indoor and outdoor, both dirt and grass, thriving and sparse all read the EXACT SAME reading. I’m skeptical. .
It tells you if the ground is wet. I could stick my finger in the ground and figure that out. It tells you the sun is shining. Who can’t look up and figure that out? The real reason I bought it because it is suppose to tell the acid level in the ground. Put it in my lawn (following the instructions) and 15 minutes later it measured (8) full alkaline no acid. So I bought a bag of sulfur from Home Depot and spread it on my lawn. Still measured (8) no acid. So 2 weeks later a did another sulfur application to my lawn. The unit still shows (8) no acid. So I tried sticking it in my bag of sulfur. Still shows no acid. I tried it with vinegar also. Still shows no acid. WHAT A COMPLETE PIECE OF JUNK!!!! .
Kind of hard to read for us old guys. A helpful hint though, is to use your phone camera, hold it in front of it and take a pick. Then just expand it for your older eyes. 😉 Seems to work as described for moisture. I have not used the other functions as yet. .
What a buy! If you’re looking for a great paper weight, look no more. This thing easily held a small stack of papers from a steady 3mph wind generated by my ceiling fan. I couldn’t believe how well it worked. No movement at all while it’s still in the packaging, and only slight movement when the soil meter is removed from the packaging (in terms of holding the papers down).Now, if you’re looking for results from a soil test, you can just purchase this to use as a paper weight. It was absolutely useless as a soil meter. Different results every time i’d use it in the same spot. It’s poorly made, and while it’s flimsy design may work for inside plants in pots (assuming you can get it to take an accurate reading), trying this outdoors would not be wise unless you have very soft soil with no rocks or roots.STAY AWAY! .

When I received the unit, it did not work on either of the moisture or light readings. It did not matter if the soil was dry or wet, the reading was 0. The gauge also did not change for the light feature. I was in the process notifying Amazon that I was returning the unit but decided to look inside the unit for a loose wire. Lo and behold, there was a wire that was not soldered properly!! So I soldered it and the unit works fine just like I thought it would when I bought it. If you are a handy person and you have this fixation with fixing things like I do, then buy this product. If not, try a different brand. .
Its rather difficult to use this, because you have to wipe the probe between each plant. So you have the meter in one hand, probe in the other, and then a paper towel and scrubber pad (included in package) must go .somewhere?My package was not sealed, and the readings are very hit or miss. I’ll be returning. .
seems like it’s working however is it supposed to come apart? I’m not sure if it’s supposed to have a screw to keep the two sides together but I picked it up one day and it fell apart. It was simple to put back together but not something I want to constantly do. .
Purchased 2 months ago. Wanted a 1 prong meter for smaller pots. Did not work like the two meter prong did. When I put prong in the soil, the moisture level would spike and then go back down to dry. The only time the prong stayed in a moist position is when the soil was extremely wet. As of today the moisture meter gauge was stuck on 3 and after 30 minutes slowly working its way to 0. There could be a learning curve with this particular device. However, my 2 prong meter is easier to use. There is no spike and drop on the level with my old meter, and my old meter always resets to 0 moisture. .

I bought this product because I’m ‘color challenged’. Typical soil sample kits leave me trying to match an ambiguous vial of muddy water to a sample chart that looks nothing like the color I’m looking at. Great, I thought, the tester can tell me the color! The problem: it didn’t work. I first tested the pH of a soil sample containing a lot of compost. I carefully followed the instructions. The mixture looked orange-ish to me (indicating acidity). The tester registered a pH of 7.5 (alkaline). That seemed odd since it looked orange-ish and soil in the Pacific NW is almost always acidic. I tested a sample from a different soil mix that didn’t contain compost. Same result. Not believing this, I next used a mixture of vinegar and water. Even I could see the sample was red/pink (very acidic). The tester still registered a pH of 7.5. I do not believe the results of this tester. Thank you Amazon for having a quick and easy return policy. .
I tested N, P and K in 8 areas (ordered more capsules to get enough, which are expensive little guys). I followed instructions exactly. All the readings were the same, that’s odd given the differences I know about (and I though I saw differences in the shades of color on some of them).Then I tested PH last, all the areas tested the same at 7.5. That’s impossible given the differences I know about. I added 5 drops vinegar to the last PH test, the sample turned from dark green to bright orange.Then I put it in the reader. NO CHANGE, still 7.5! Clearly the PH function did not work, but I don’t trust the N, P, K either. There should have been different readings in at least 3 of the areas tested.I’m returning the kit and will stick with sending samples to the county extension office. It’ll be more expensive, but at least it’ll be reliable.I don’t think the capsules were to blame because I did see some variation in the shades of colors. This kit doesn’t have a backup color chart to read what the different shades correspond to. .
So far, I’ve only used the pH test, but I’m very happy with the results. I never worried about pH levels until this past year, when my garden really didn’t produce. Doing some research online, I found that pH levels play a critical role in a plant’s ability to absorb nutrients. Shortly after that, just by chance, I ran across an old Ferry-Morse pH and Fertility meter at a garage sale. For a buck, what the heck. I tried it, but it stayed pretty much between 7.0 – 7.5. Was my soil that bad, or was this thing not working? I mixed some vinegar into the soil, and it did show movement to the acidic range, but I still wondered, was it working?Moving ahead 3 months, I ran across a TestWest pH meter on Amazon. It looked pretty cool, it seemed a lot easier to use (just poke it into the soil), and it could be used on indoor plants, which isn’t specifically addressed with the Ferry-Morse. Once again, for under $15, what the heck. And also, to test everything further, I purchased this Luster Leaf Rapitest Digital Soil Test Kit . Like one of the other reviewers, I had used Luster Leaf’s other soil test kit, but found it difficult to analyze the murky colors against the color charts, so I decided to go with this digital kit. Besides, it sounded pretty easy. Mix it up. Put the test tube into the meter, press a button to let the meter read the color and give you the results. What fun.For the test, I used the soil from one of my indoor plants, a 4-1/2 foot hibiscus. I followed Ferry-Morse’s instructions, dug some soil out from about 3 down, watered it, let it set and then tested it. The Ferry-Morse read 5.8. The TestWest read 5.9. Pretty darn close. To validate the results, I used the same soil sample with the Luster Leaf Rapitest’s pH test. Note: for the Luster Leaf’s soil test, I followed Rapitest’s instructions and set a bit of soil aside before watering it (they want to start with dry soil). After mixing the soil with the reagent and water, letting it set, placing it into the test chamber and pushing the TEST button, it lit up the 5.5 indicator–which means that the soil pH is between 5.5 and 5.9.I couldn’t ask for a better validation (other than spending another $50+ and sending a soil sample to a full-fledged lab). All three tests instruments read within the same pH range.I already amended my garden soil this Fall (before I purchased this soil test kit) with a high sulfur fertilizer and an organic soil acidifier. I’ll be testing my garden soil in the Spring with all four tests in this kit. I trust the results implicitly. .
If you’re reading this, ask yourself a quick question: Did you enjoy chemistry experiments in school? If the answer is yes, read on. If the answer is no then this product is probably not for you.Instructions provided with this test kit are very detailed and require pretty thorough preparation that might take a full day (ie it’s not quick). You have to be very precise with quantities and the soil has to be prepared properly for testing as well as during testing itself. A single missed instruction may compromise your test results (like ensuring that pH test has time to settle but nutrient tests are shaken up with flakes suspended in liquid). Emptying little capsules of test powder require real finesse as well. Precision is the name of the game here, and it’s significantly harder than using a test strip or a pH meter with two metal probes.Now, I actually enjoyed chemistry experiments in school and have a very detail-oriented mind. I found this process interesting but quite cumbersome. It also comes with 5 capsules for each nutrient (and 10 for pH) and refills aren’t easy to find. The digital aspect of this test is also a bit of a joke. There is a while LED in the tester with a sensor on the other side. Readings are pretty stable from test to test, but maximum PH this reader measures is 7.5 and you have no idea if you’re at 7.3 or much higher than 7.5. My digital tester with two metal probes measured between 7.2 and 7.8 around different points of the yard, but the tester just showed a 7.5 reading.All-in-all this is both too gimmicky and cumbersome for my taste. It does seem to work, but I haven’t compared test results to a real lab. That’s why I rated it “just Okay”. I think your money would be better spent on the test strip test like Rapitest 1601 instead of this one though. .

Okay so I’m new at this whole, keeping plants alive thing, and so I thought I would get this just to make sure I’m keeping the soil in the right state. Upon opening it, I was a little skeptical because it seems kinda cheap. Then I realize it doesn’t take batteries ”hmmmm I think this is going to a bust” I tell myself. After already giving up on it, I decide to try it out and see if I’m missing something .like no batteries?? What?! Anyway, I flip the switch to PH, find a nice little spot and nestle it in the soil, and VOILA!! It’s like magic! It gave me a reading! WHAT?! Excited, I go to the next happy plant, to see if it will give me anything and BOOM! Works again! I love this little “I don’t know how it runs or works gadget” and would definitely purchase again. .
We have clay to plant in .I don’t even qualify it as soil. So much going wrong. I learned a new word chlorosis decided we needed a meter to see just what we’re dealing with. Wherever I pushed it into the ground the pH meter didn’t even wiggle away from the alkaline end. Water meter changed in different pokey-holes. So I figured at least that worked. But, I tried the pH again in my huge hanging baskets and it was smack dab in the middle. The lovely lil meter has told me I’ve bitten off more than I can chew ugh. 68 yrs old. New lil’ cottage with really yucky brown stuff that is a poor imitation of dirt. I swear we’re sitting on an ancient civilization here in W Texas .and we’ve inherited the parking lot! But. The meter does all it’s supposed to do. .
A friend of mine purchased this from a store but since I am in quarantine, I looked on Amazon and there it was and even less expensive than my local nursery. I’m a novice but it has helped me most especially in knowing when my plants need watering and sun exposure. .
Works as advertised. Very easy to read and use. No brainer. Like the long probes to check the soil moisture level before watering so I don’t drown my 10 potted plants’ roots. .

Don’t waste your time on this. I purchase 3 of these . Here are the results. #1- Set up in my yard and all looked fine. Upon removing from the placement, I found that the tip of the copper looking probe was missing and remained in the ground. Further inspection indicated the probe tips are separate and not fastened securely. This tip has a small wire attached that was broken. So, this unit was out. #2- I took this unit from the box and removed the plastic probe tip protectors just to find that the probe tip on the copper probe pulled off with the protector. Same problem as #1. This unit was out. #3-upon taking this unit from the box, I found it crushed to an extent the plastic screw inserts inside the housing were broken off. There was no damage to the box. Go figure ? So, this unit was out.I wrote customer support to find the units would be replaced if I sent a invoice copy. I ask if I could chose another model since My luck with this one wasn’t good. I was told I hade to get the same model. Needless to say, I have no use for the product and all three remain in my shop in their original boxes. .
Had higher hopes for this product. After several uses it does not seem to accurately gauge moisture… As in I actually put the probes in a cup of water and said it was only 75% moist. The best and only functional feature was the UV light meter .
This 3 way is nice and also easy to read. For PH reading, the soil should be moist and the meter should be left in the soil for many minutes ( 5 or more) for accuracy in some soils. .
Took a bit longer to get than I liked, and the item I believe shipped from the factory with a small crack or blister. Not quite sure how to describe it, would of returned it but the shipping would be more than the item is worth, so as it is a small crack I will keep it. Still like it though. .

Worthless junk. PH reads the same no matter what soil you place it in? Flip the switch to moisture while in the same soil and readings do not change?Only 1 of the 3 that seem to read correctly is the light meter. Sadly the only one of the 3 I did not need. I bought this to measure PH for the different plants separated out in my elevated 10 X 10 garden. All of the separated portions read the same. Which it starts out between 7 to 8 on the scale. And does not vary no matter what soil you check.Maybe just a bad unit? Should have gone the extra money for a working PH tester. As I NEED to see the real PH balance in each of my different plant types. Tjhey all can not be 7.2 in every container or every part of my yard which also all read the same .Update. 7 3 19. I bought this for my fiddle leaf fig tree and I’m so glad I did. Now I don’t have to worry about overwatering or underwatering my plant. Pretty accurate so far. .
Had a moisture meter at work and needed one at home so got this. Seems to work well. Some reviewers said the needle did not move when they tried using it to test moisture. I had the same experience initially UNTIL I realized I had not pushed the indicator to Moist. When it came the indicator was pushed to the other side for pH. Be sure to push indicator to Moist before trying to test for moisture in the soil. .
I’ve been growing dragon fruits as well as various herbs, chili, and cucumbers. They’re all on pots with random mix of soil and some did well while others did not. I got this to primary test the PH of the soil and I was surprised to find that one of my dragon fruit had PH of 4. I added some lime to help since. My other pots were at 6 or 7. I think one difference is I have a slow drip from rain water. Anyways this meter was great and shows the reading within 10 seconds. I recommend not leaving it in the pot unless it’s in a shaded area. I clean it after each measure and just store it. I don’t want the sun to beat down on it. .

I got my meter today and immediately set it to hygrometer mode and stuck it into a cup of water. The needle went up to 6 on the 10 scale and stayed there for half an hour showing Moist. At that point I terminated the wet test. Is there anything wetter than pure water? Then, being spurred by the wet test I set it on light and stuck it under a fluorescent light about 3 feet from the light source. The handy little meter showed lumens where it says Dark. Encouraged by these results I stuck it under a halogen lamp 1 foot away from the light source and it showed 1000 lumens. Maybe I will stay away from the pH test not to get discouraged further.Maybe the vendor can enlighten me why water is not wet enough and why fluorescent light is dark? .
Long story short, I had to throw these out after 3 months. I bought multiples and they all failed.These meters are great for judging soil moisture and acidity at first, but after a VERY SHORT period of time, (~2 months), the probes have corroded and the moisture meter only goes up to a 4, which means barely moist. Absolutely terrible, such a disappointment. I didn’t realize they’d started to go bad, so I ended up overwatering my plants a bit, causing them to get brown and yellow tips.Really unfortunate because they worked great initially, they just have zero staying power. A waste of money. .
I’m using this for my houseplants to hopefully avoid over and under watering. The moisture monitor works. I’m not sure about the Ph. The light monitor doesn’t seem to work at all. I have my plants in bright places and it still registered as dark . Thankfully I mainly need the moisture part. .
This soil tester gets the job done. It’s been as accurate as others I’ve bought in the past, at showing the correct moisture level. It showed the light conditions properly, and the metal prongs are very sturdy. A great value for the money, I would definitely recommend this! .

It works , somewhat. It’s very inaccurate which makes me wonder why it is needed in the first place. You can just check the soil with a screwdriver, this thing is 50% right at times. Really, I have 8 of those spead around the yard. .
These are keeping my plants alive! These sensors are easy to read and seem very accurate. They help me keep up so I don’t forget to water my plants or overwater them. .
I recommend this to any new grower to prevent overwatering. Pretty durable. .

I couldn’t see paying big $$s for measurement equipment, but needing to judge the moisture and PH values for our new SIP planter I built, meant this would be a bargain and useful. It is and hopefully continues.Note on the planter, got lots of critters in our area, and can’t leave anything open for them to get to the fruits and veggies before we do. So the hardware cloth covered open frame. Also off the ground so WG doesn’t have to get down on her hands and knees to work the garden. .
Only had this 3 weeks but return window closes faster than that. Only part that works is light meter and I didn’t even buy it for that function. Do not buy this product. .

It really helps to decide when to water if in doubt. It’s a good investment for the plant lover (have too many plants or expensive plants). I have the fickle and sometimes testy (for NYC climate) fiddle leaf fig trees. Since having this tool, I’ve noticed less leaves dropping from these 6-7′ tall beauties.The packaging has a moisture reader chart for various plants, so keep the package. It is handy. Every week, I take this meter and test the soil and if the meter reads 2 (for too dry) or 7 (for too wet), I know what to do. If too wet, I add good draining soil or just leave it alone for a couple of days and then test it again to see if it’s time to water. Generally it’s on the drier end, so I water my FLFs about 3-4 cups of water until the lever points to #4 (goal #) – on a weekly basis. Only read it once a week because aspiring for the goal number at all times will only cause your plant to root rot (from too much water). You can’t save your plant after root rot, so it’s best to err on the dryer side. Some plants, fruit plants specifically (hardy Chicago fig trees, jaboticaba, lemon trees) will die if you don’t water them more than once a week during the summer. .
I knew my soil pH was off because the citrus were yellowing a bit and this tested it quickly and accurately so I could add the right soil conditioner. Easy to read and use. The additional moisture meter helped to adjust my lawn sprinklers as well, no more guessing games with am I watering enough or wasting water? I have been able to adjust the sprinklers for less time and so I should save a bit of water. The tuna cans around the yard to assess the sprinkler level was a bit of a pain. This assesses the soil moister in just a few minutes. Nice. .
When I initially tested the item in a glass of water it did not register, however I followed the suggestion of other reviewers and rubbed the points with some steel wool. It works beautifully, and has helped tremendously in getting acquainted with the needs of a new, unfamiliar plant in my home. .
No joke: both prongs broke upon first insertion into lawn. No, I didn’t push it that hard. See photo.Also, price is all over the place When I purchased it a few weeks ago, it was $8. Now (a day after receiving/breaking it), it’s going for $11.95, supposedly down from $27.99. .

The backlight function and swiveling sensor really come in handy. It makes a rather loud beep sound every time you press a button. If the volume was turned down on this a bit, it would make it more pleasurable to use, in my opinion. I was hoping it had a color temperature function, but it is just air temperature ( I found out you need to pay a lot more for that type of meter). All in all it is a great value in an easy to use handheld meter. I’m happy with the purchase. .
I’ve been experimenting to various different headlights (LED, HID, etc ) in my autos lately trying to determine which are really the brightest. This tool performs well for that purpose and has allowed me to make comparisons based on data and not just appearance. .
I just received it in the mail and was anxious to test it out. I will be using it mainly for film photography. It’s still early days but overall I am impressed by the accuracy and sensitivity of the meter. I’ve found that I get the best reading when I use the X10 scale which gives me a bettter average reading which I can use to convert to an EV and then check my chart for the correct exposure. I’ve verified the exposures on my digital camera in manual mode. .
 The meter is easy to figure out and use. It can be used for a variety of situations from setting up an office to make sure it has correct light levels for eye strain to photographic use. Testing it against my light meter I use for photography it was accurate. It has a lightweight feel to it and the display is easy to read. .

Pretty nice. Does what it’s supposed to. A bit hard to read, no way to attach it to a line.I bought this to take backpacking. It’s lightweight, solar powered (still working days after I find it buried under books). It has a suction cup, I could slip a thin string around the narrow part, and it might work for a while. Unlike the zipper pull thermometers we’ve all had (and found two days up the trail are no longer working or are completely inaccurate.) .
I was surprised the display is translucent and actually like that feature. The unit will be used outside our RV window to display outdoor temperatures. Thus, seeing through the display seemingly makes a smaller footprint. I do like the on and off feature to limit battery use while not traveling. I have not tested the battery life and assume it is not very long, much like a solar calculator which requires some light to help power it fully. Note, the box stated the battery is not replaceable and that’s a bummer. I set this next to my Kestrel temperature unit in both the sun and shade for around ten minutes each. In the sun, the La Crosse reads about five degrees lower. In the shade, the temperature is within one degree. I am not sure why, but I trust my Kestrel more. The unit does seem to update the temperature every eight seconds as described on the package. Overall, I am pleased with it for my purposes which is too know how cold it is in the mornings and easily place / remove from the RV window. .
These outside window thermometers are the bomb! Got 4 of them a few months ago and they are perfect with the temp always completely visible from inside. .
I purchased this ESPECIALLY for the ability to read it in the dark. Directions leave much to be desired. It is solar powered, so it won’t work until it is installed and has time to charge the cell. However, THERE IS NO NIGHT LIGHT, so I’m not able to read it at night. Now it’s just like other digital thermometers that I can’t see at night, only more expensive. .

I ordered 6. 4 of them did not work after 2 days of sun/charging. Plus they were too big and didn’t fit my standard post (trek type deck posts).When I tried to return the items, I was told by the seller that I needed to take pictures (at night) of all the lights and send them in to determine if they would issue a refund. PLUS I had to pay for shipping them back to them. .
Total junk after a year they are all completely yellow instead of white. Half of them have stopped working also Don’t waste your money. Buy the real deal from the fence manufacturer.
