Can You View a Story and Hide That You Viewed it?

There are several ways to view stories without leaving a trace. Keep in mind that these methods are not 100% reliable and Facebook may update the Stories feature to prevent this from happening.

View Facebook History in Airplane Mode

If you don’t want a Facebook user to know that you’ve seen their story, you can use Airplane Mode to prevent the Facebook app from sending information to their servers.

Launch the Facebook app on Android or iPhone and sign in if you haven’t already. Then let the home page load. Turn on airplane mode (or flight mode) to disable your phone’s network connection.

Choose any story you want to watch. They must be pre-downloaded, meaning you can watch them offline. After you’re done, close the Facebook app completely. Turn off airplane mode and return to normal browsing.

Note. If you turn off Airplane Mode before closing the Facebook app, it will tell the Facebook user that you’ve viewed their story. Also, some stories may not load, in which case you should disable Airplane Mode and let them load before trying to access them offline.

Viewing Facebook stories with the half-swipe method

An alternative way to view Facebook history without the user knowing is to swipe half of the previous history. This will allow you to see the story without registering that you have viewed it. While this method works well for text or image stories, the downside is that you won’t be able to view video stories.

Half swipe:

Open Facebook and select the Story before the Story you want to see without the user knowing. Swipe through the story until you see the next story, but don’t let go. You will be able to see most of the story (if it’s not a video). When you’re done, swipe back to the original story and release.

Use alternate account

The third and final way to view a Facebook story without letting the person know is to use a different account. This works for people who post their FB stories publicly, but won’t work for those who only share them with friends (unless you add them and they accept your friend request).

Happily Ever After

Facebook’s Story feature has become a popular way for people to post about their daily lives, and for organizations to advertise and engage with their audiences. Luckily, Facebook allows you to check who has viewed your history, as well as ways to increase your privacy. But these methods are unreliable and people can still view your history without your knowledge.
