Can You See Who Viewed Your Instagram Story?.
Do you think someone is secretly spying on your Instagram stories? Is it even possible? Well, it is. Fortunately, Instagram allows you to see the people who have viewed your Instagram story. But you may not be able to see everyone who has viewed your stories, especially if they are using third party/unofficial apps.
This guide looks at different ways to find out who viewed your Instagram story. You will also learn how to hide your stories from certain people.
Who Viewed Your Instagram Story? How to Check
Instagram Stories has an Activity card where you can see who has viewed the content you upload. You can even check how people interacted with your stories if you have a business account.
You check who viewed your Instagram story when it’s on your profile and even 24 hours after it’s gone.
Tap the Your Story circle at the top right of the Instagram home feed to view your story or stories. You can also go to your Instagram profile and tap your profile picture or icon.Tap your profile photos. in the history section – in the lower left corner of the screen. You can also swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Activity card. You should see people who have viewed your story.
Different stories can (and can) have different numbers of viewers and number of views. So, if you have uploaded multiple stories, select each story to check their viewers. Instagram records replays of your story. Therefore, the number of story views may be greater than the number of viewers.
Let’s say your story has 25 views, but there are only 16 people in the viewers list. This is because some accounts have viewed your story multiple times.
If someone liked your story, you’ll see a red heart emoji in the bottom corner of the person’s profile picture.
If no one has viewed your story, the message “No one has seen this yet” will appear on the screen.
The Stories dashboard for Instagram Professional and Business accounts is slightly different and more advanced. The “Statistics” tab shows you more information about your history activities.
Tap the bar graph or chart icon in the top right corner of the story dashboard. You’ll find summaries of several key pieces of information about your story—accounts reached, impressions, content interactions, and more. Data from these details can help increase engagement and grow your business.
Can Someone Secretly View Your Instagram Story?
Yes, people can view your story anonymously, but not through the official Instagram app. Some third-party apps and websites allow people to view Instagram stories without the knowledge of the account owner. InstaStories is a popular website for secretly viewing and downloading Instagram stories of public profile Instagram users.
All you need to view someone’s Instagram stories on these services is that person’s username. The platforms are often free and you don’t even need to have an Instagram account.
Note. Third party services that offer to link your Instagram account with their apps may not be secure. Sometimes they are unreliable and do not work. Don’t share your Instagram login credentials with third parties unless it’s necessary.
You should be aware that you cannot view expired or deleted stories on Instagram or third party tools. Instagram Stories expire 24 hours after upload.
Currently, there is no way to anonymously view the stories of Instagram users with a private profile – even using third-party tools. They can always check who has viewed their stories – viewers have nowhere to hide. Similarly, you must be following a personal account before viewing a person’s status.
How to Check Instagram Story Viewers After 24 Hours
Instagram removes content from your story after 24 hours. You can no longer access deleted or expired stories from your profile or home page. The content also becomes inaccessible to your subscribers and public viewers.
However, Instagram allows an additional 24 hours to see who viewed your story after it disappears from your profile. This way you can find out who viewed your Instagram stories 48 hours after they were uploaded.
Open your Instagram profile, tap the hamburger menu icon and select Archive.
Tap the drop-down menu icon at the top of the page and select Stories Archive.
You’ll find a collection of old (and expired) stories you’ve posted on your profile on the Stories Archive page.
Select an item in the list and swipe up to see who has viewed history in the last 48 hours. Alternatively, tap the profile icon(s) in the bottom left corner. This will also open the story action card.
Instagram can only show the number of views, not showing the names of the users who have viewed your story. This usually happens when the story has expired after 24 hours. Closing and reopening the Instagram app may solve the problem.
If you still don’t see the usernames of people viewing your history, please wait a few minutes and check again.
Take Charge of Instagram Story Views
There are different ways to control who can view your Instagram stories. You can make your profile private, create a Close Friends list, or hide stories from certain people.
Make your Instagram private
Only people who follow you can view and share your Instagram posts and stories when you make your page private. Here’s how to make your account private on iPhone and Android devices:
Click on your profile picture in the lower right corner of the Instagram app to open your profile page. Tap the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner and select “Settings”.Tap “Privacy”.Enable your private account and tap “Switch to private” to continue.
You may receive an invitation to check your followers. We recommend that you review the list and remove the people you don’t want to show your stories to.
Click View Subscribers and click the Remove button next to the usernames you want to remove from the list.
Create a list of close friends
Creating a list of close friends allows you to share stories with a select number of people. Only people on the list can view your story. The best part is that you can add as many people as you want to your list of close friends.
The people on the list will know they are on it, but they cannot see other people on the list. Only you have access to this information. Here’s how to create a list of close friends and share stories with people on that list.
Open your Instagram profile, tap the hamburger menu icon, and select “Close Friends”.
Click the Add button next to the people you want to add to your Close Friends list. Or click “Remove” to remove someone from the list.
You’ll see a green icon next to the profile picture of the people you’ve added to the list. There is a search bar to find the people you want to add quickly. Enter your username in the search bar and click “Add” to add them to your close friends list.
You can add anyone to your list of close friends – people who don’t follow you and people you don’t follow.
Tap the x in the top left corner to return to the previous page.
Instagram doesn’t notify people you’ve added or removed from your close friends list. When you share stories with your close friends, people on the list will see a green ring around your profile picture. This tells them they’re on your close friends list.
Hide Instagram stories from certain people
Instagram allows you to hide your stories from certain Instagram users – similar to WhatsApp, Facebook, and other popular social media platforms. Here’s how to do it:
Open your Instagram profile, select the menu icon and click “Settings”.Tap “Privacy”.Select “History”.
Click Hide History From.Select the users you want to hide your history from and click Done.
Note that hiding your stories also hides your live videos from restricted users. These are currently three effective methods to protect your Instagram stories. We’ll update this article when Instagram introduces more story-related privacy features in the future.
