By default, when you print a web page in Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, a header containing the page title, page number, and total page count, and a footer containing the page URL and date are appended to the printed web page.
Turn off headers / footers in IE
The header and footer can be easily customized or removed entirely. To do this, select Print | Page settings from the gear menu in the upper right corner of the Internet Explorer window.
The Page Setup dialog box opens. In the Headers and Footers box, there are three drop-down lists below the header and three more below the footer. The first drop-down list under each heading defines the text that appears on the left side of the printed web page. The second drop-down list specifies the text displayed in the middle, and the third drop-down list specifies the text displayed on the right side of the page.
You can choose to display the web page title, web page URL, page number, total pages, and date and time. To display your own text in any part of the header or footer, select Custom from the corresponding drop-down list.

The Custom dialog box opens. Enter the text you want to display in the header or footer in the edit field and click OK.
Click OK on the Page Setup dialog box to accept the changes and close the dialog box.
To view the modified headers and footers, select Print | Print preview from the gear menu in the upper right corner of the Internet Explorer window.
The text you enter appears on the page in a preview window.
In the preview window, you can easily turn off all headers and footers with one click. Click the Enable or Disable Headers and Footers button on the toolbar. You can also press Alt + E for this.
If you change your mind and want to change the headers and footers again, you can easily access the Page Setup dialog from the preview window. Just click the Page Setup button or press Alt + U.
To close the preview window, click the X button in the upper right corner of the window.
There is also a Font button below the Header drop-down menus in the Page Setup dialog box that allows you to change the font used in headers and footers.
Turn off headers / footers in Edge
If you’re using Microsoft Edge, you can turn off headers and footers, but that’s a slightly different process. First, click the settings icons on the right, and then click Print.
In the next print dialog you should see the Headers and Footers option in full. Select “Off” from the drop-down list.
There are no other options, as in Internet Explorer. In IE, you can add your own text and a lot of other preset data to the header and footer, but in Edge this is either turned on or off. Enjoy!
