Device Association Framework High CPU Usage in Windows 10?

Posted on October 9, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on Device Association Framework High CPU Usage in Windows 10?

If you’ve recently started using Windows 10, you may be facing an issue where things start to get really slow. If you’ve looked at the processes running in Windows 10 after all, you may have noticed that a process is consuming a lot of your CPU resources.

At least this is what happened to me on one of my Windows 10 machines. I installed Windows 10 on several computers and they all worked fine until I installed it on a Lenovo laptop. When I checked the Task Manager I saw that the Device Association Framework Provider Host Process (daHost.exe) is taking up almost 90% of the CPU on the system! Usually it should be zero and only use a few MB of RAM.

If you see this is working on your system, the problem might be an outdated driver on your system. This process is used to pair wireless and wired devices with Windows. Since Windows 10 is relatively new and is updated twice a year, there is still a lot of hardware that Windows 10 does not yet support by providing compatible drivers.

You can determine if the hardware is causing the problem by going to Device Manager and checking for yellow exclamation marks. You can do this by going to Control Panel and clicking Device Manager.

Then check for yellow exclamation marks on network cards, video adapters, etc. If you see them, then it is definitely related to this hardware and you probably need to find a driver for Windows 10. If you cannot find a driver for Windows 10 , try downloading the latest driver for Windows 7 or 8.1. Then you can install it in compatibility mode.

If none of the drivers you are using are working, the only other option you may have before a newer version is released is to disable the device. This can be done by right-clicking the device in Device Manager and choosing Disable.

Of course, you won’t be able to use the device if it’s disabled, but at least you will be able to use Windows 10 without high CPU usage. If you’ve tried all of this or nothing shows up in Device Manager, please leave a comment here and I’ll try to help. Enjoy!
