Easy way to download and install mods in Minecraft.

Minecraft is the best selling game of all time. Part of its popularity is due to the nearly unlimited number of things you can do in the game. Mods further expand the possibilities of Minecraft, and some mods add hundreds of hours of additional gameplay.

This guide shows you how to download and install Minecraft mods on PC, Mac, iPhone, Android and console.

What are Minecraft Mods?

Mods are extensions that either add content to the game, modify it, or both. There are hundreds of community-created mods, many of which have been bundled into incredibly complex mod packs that can add hundreds of hours of gameplay.

For example, some of the most popular mod packs turn Minecraft into an adventure game, while others expand the crafting experience by allowing players to build huge factories and automate crafting.

Other mods such as OptiFine have been developed to improve and optimize the graphical quality of Minecraft for better in-game performance. You can easily install mods like OptiFine without using any third party apps.

We recommend purchasing the Java version because Mojang has refused to support community mods for the Bedrock version.

How to Install Mods in Minecraft: Java Edition

Minecraft: Java Edition has many mods available and is the easiest version to mod. The downside is that it is only available on PC, Mac and Linux.

The most popular way to mod Java Edition is to use the third party Forge modding program. We’ll cover how you can manually install individual mods, but installing modpacks via Forge saves all the work and means each mod has been carefully optimized for each other so you know they’re compatible.

How to Install Mods on a Windows PC

Forge is an application programming interface (API) that allows mods to interact with Minecraft. Most mods require Minecraft Forge to work.

Download the recommended version of Forge from the official website and complete the installation.Download the desired mods from a trusted source. The best place is CurseForge, a repository of mods and modpacks. The two best alternatives are At Launcher, which also has a lot of mods, and Technic, which still has a lot of packs for older versions of Minecraft.

Press Windows key + R to open Run.Type %appdata% and press Enter.

Double click the .minecraft folder.

Right-click anywhere in the folder and choose New > Folder. Call it mods.

Move the downloaded mod to your mods folder.

How to install modpacks using the CurseForge launcher

CurseForge has its own version of the Minecraft launcher. If you’re using the CurseForge launcher, you don’t need to install Forge separately, as it will handle the process. You can use the CurseForge launcher to find and install the best Minecraft mods and modpacks.

The CurseForge Launcher is available on both Windows and macOS and is the easiest way to manage Forge mod packs in Minecraft.

To use the CurseForge launcher:

Download the launcher from the official website and install it.Open the CurseForge launcher.Select the Browse Mod Packs tab.

Click “Install” next to the mod pack you want to install.

Once the installation is complete, select the My Mod Packs tab and click Play.

How to Install Mods on Mac

The easiest way to download Minecraft mods on Mac is to use the CurseForge launcher as mentioned above. To manually install mods, the process is identical to that for Windows, except that the mods folder needs to be created at:

~/Library/Application Support/minecraft

You can quickly access this folder by pressing Command + Shift + G.

How to Install Mods on Console

Unfortunately, there are no mods for the console version of Minecraft (Minecraft: Bedrock Edition). Instead, console players can access add-ons from the store. These add-ons are not free and are limited to skin and texture packs that allow you to change the look of things in the game.

To download add-ons:

Launch Minecraft and select Marketplace from the main menu.

Select the desired skin pack, mashup pack, world or texture pack.

Buy it with Minecoins or a credit card.To apply the add-on to the world, open the world settings, select the Behavior Pack or Resource Pack, and enable your add-on.

Note. There are older methods for adding community-created mods to the Xbox One version of Minecraft. However, Microsoft is constantly fixing these methods so that they no longer work.

How to Install Mods on Android or iPhone

Installing mods on Android or iPhone is relatively easy these days. However, you must use a third party mod installer, there are very few mods and the ones that do exist are very limited. Minecraft PE includes a Marketplace with several add-ons similar to the console version.

Note. You must have the latest version of Minecraft installed in order to install third-party mods using the mod installer.

To download mods on Android:

Open Google Play Store and download BlockLauncher. This is similar to Forge for Java Edition and helps to integrate mods into Minecraft: PE.

Go back to the Google Play Store and install mods for Minecraft PE. This application allows you to view and install various mods.

Open Mods for Minecraft PE and download the desired mod.

Next, all you have to do is use BlockLauncher to import the mod into Minecraft. For this:

Open Minecraft.Select Manage ModPE Scripts from the BlockLauncher menu.

Select Import.

Click Local Storage > Download.

Select your mod and click Import.

The mod should now be applied to your Minecraft app.

To download mods on iOS:

Open the iOS App Store and download Mods for Minecraft PE. Find the mod you want to play in the app and select Install.

Note. Please be aware that since these mods are created by the community and Minecraft is constantly updated, many of them may stop working or stop working after installing them.
