FIX: Browser Not Remembering Your Passwords. Why does my browser keep forgetting passwords?.
Every major web browser, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, has a built-in password manager that lets you save and auto-fill passwords. Create or enter a set of login credentials and your browser will ask you if you want it to remember this information.

However, sometimes your browser does not save or remember passwords. For example, misconfigured settings, password exceptions, conflicting browser extensions, etc. can cause this issue.
Please correct the fixes below so that your browser starts saving and remembering passwords again.
Enable Password Saving for Your Browser
If your browser is unable to store passwords for every site you log into, you may need to activate the option that remembers your login details. You can do this by following your password or autocomplete settings.
Google Chrome
1. Open the Chrome menu (select the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the window) and select Preferences.
2. Select Autocomplete in the sidebar. Then select the Passwords option on the left side of the settings screen.
3. Click the radio button next to “Prompt to save passwords.”
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open the Firefox menu (select the icon with three rows of lines in the upper right corner of the window) and select Preferences.
2. Select “Privacy & Security” from the sidebar.
3. Scroll down to the Logins and Passwords section and check the boxes next to Ask to save logins and passwords for websites.
Microsoft Edge
1. Open the Edge menu (select the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the window) and select Preferences.
2. Select “Passwords”.
3. Click the radio button next to “Prompt to save passwords.”
Apple Safari
1. Select Safari in the menu bar and choose Preferences.
2. Click the AutoComplete tab.
3. Select the Usernames and Passwords check box.
Remove Site From Never Saved List
Is the problem limited to a specific site or group of sites? Most likely, you have not previously memorized passwords for these sites. In this case, your browser will not ask you to save your login information again until you remove it from the password exceptions list. To do this, follow these instructions.
Google Chrome
1. Open the Chrome menu and select Preferences.
2. Select AutoComplete> Passwords.
3. Scroll down until you reach the “Never Saved” section. Then remove any sites that you do not want to be listed by clicking the X next to each entry.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
2. Select Privacy & Security from the sidebar.
3. Scroll down to the Logins and Passwords section and select Exceptions.
4. Select a site and click the Delete Website button to delete it. Or select “Remove All Websites” to remove all entries in the list.
5. Select “Save Changes”.
Microsoft Edge
1. Open the Edge menu and select Settings.
2. Select “Passwords”.
3. Scroll down to the “Never saved” section and remove the entries you want from the list below.
Apple Safari
1. Select Safari> Preferences from the menu bar.
2. Go to the Passwords tab and enter your account password (or use Touch ID) to unlock the list of saved passwords.
3. Safari Password Manager merges saved passwords and excluded sites together, but you can identify entries that belong to the last group by looking for the never saved tag. After selecting the entry, click the “Delete” button.
Clear Your Browsing Data
If your browser still won’t prompt you to save passwords (or if nothing happens when you try to remember them), try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache. This usually resolves problems caused by stale browsing data.
Google Chrome
1. Open the Chrome menu and select “Preferences”.
2. Select “Privacy & Security” from the sidebar.
3. Select the Clear Browsing Data option.
4. Set the Time Range to All Time and check the boxes next to Cookies and Site Data and Cached Images and Files.
5. Select “Clear Data”.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
2. Select Privacy & Security from the sidebar.
3. Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section and select Clear Data.
4. Check the boxes next to Cookies, Site Data and Cached Web Content and select Clear.
Microsoft Edge
1. Open the Edge menu and select Settings.
2. Select “Privacy”, “Search” and “Services” from the sidebar.
3. In the “Clear browsing data” section, select “Choose what to clear”.
4. Check the boxes next to “Cookies and site data”, “Cached images and files” and select “Clear now”.
Apple Safari
1. Select Safari> Clear History from the menu bar.
2. Install “Clear All History”.
3. Select “Clear History”.
Disable Your Browser Extensions
Extensions can create conflicts, so make sure turning them off restores your browser’s ability to remember passwords. You can then isolate problematic extensions by reactivating them one at a time. Here’s how to access your browser’s extension manager.
Google Chrome
Click the Extensions icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select Manage Extensions. Or open the Chrome menu, point to More Tools, and select Extensions.
Mozilla Firefox
Open the Firefox menu and select Add-ons and Themes. Then select “Extensions” from the sidebar.
Microsoft Edge
Click the Extensions icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select Manage Extensions. Or open the Edge menu and select Extensions.
Apple Safari
From the menu bar, choose Safari> Preferences and click the Extensions tab.
Try Saving Passwords Manually
If your browser still cannot remember passwords for a specific site or group of sites, you can try to manually save your login information. Unfortunately, this is only possible in Firefox and Safari.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open the Firefox menu and select Passwords.
2. Click the Create New Login button in the lower left corner of the window.
3. Complete the fields and select Save. Repeat these steps for any other credentials that you want your browser to remember.
Apple Safari
1. Select Safari> Preferences from the menu bar.
2. Select the “Passwords” tab and unlock the list of saved passwords.
3. Click the Add button. Then fill in the fields and select Add Password. Then repeat for any other passwords you want to keep.
Enable Passwords Syncing
If your passwords aren’t syncing across devices, it’s a good idea to check your browser sync settings.
Google Chrome
1. Open the Chrome menu and select “Preferences”.
2. Select “Sync & Google Services”.
3. Select Manage Synchronization.
4. Set the switch to the “Passwords” position.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
2. Select “Synchronization”.
3. In the “Synchronization” section, select “Change”.
4. Check the “Logins and Passwords” box.
5. Select “Save Changes”.
Microsoft Edge
1. Open the Edge menu and select Settings.
2. Select “Synchronize”.
3. Set the switch to the “Passwords” position.
Apple Safari
1. Open the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
2. Select Apple ID.
3. Select the Keychain Access checkbox.
Reset Your Browser
If none of the above fixes helped, then try resetting your browser settings to factory default settings. You won’t lose your saved bookmarks or passwords, but it’s best to sync your data with your Google, Firefox or Microsoft accounts before proceeding.
Note. Safari does not offer a reset option, but you can clear cookies, cache, and other browsing data instead.

2. Select Advanced> Reset Settings from the sidebar.
3. Select “Reset Settings to Initial Defaults”.
4. Select “Reset Settings” to confirm.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open the Firefox menu and select Help.
2. Select Additional Troubleshooting Information.
3. Select “Refresh Firefox”.
Microsoft Edge
1. Open the Edge menu and select Settings.
2. Select “Reset Settings” in the sidebar.
3. Select “Reset settings to defaults”.
4. Select “Reset” to confirm.
Why Not Try a Third-Party Password Manager?
The above fixes should help you get your browser to start saving or remembering passwords again. But if you want to improve your login information experience, consider purchasing a popular third-party password manager. They make it easy to save, sync, and manage passwords. They are also much safer.
