How To Blend In Photoshop
There are several ways to blend images using Photoshop Some of them will give you a simpler effect, like changing the transparency of a layer. You can also use a layer mask to combine your images into one crisp image.
Depending on what effect you want to achieve, you can try these different methods and see which one works best for your project. Some of them are easier to achieve, but they are generally quite simple.
You can read here how to blend images in different ways in Photoshop
Blending in Photoshop with Layer Mask
The most popular way to blend two images in Photoshop is using a layer mask. This route produces very smooth blending and can be used in many different ways. You can control where the images are combined to get the exact end product you want.
First, you need the two images you want to combine on separate layers in Photoshop Make sure to select the top layer before adding a layer mask.
To add a layer mask, click the icon at the bottom of the Layers panel that looks like a square with a circle in the center. The layer mask will then appear next to the image on the layer you selected.
Layer masks work by letting you fill in the places you want the image to be either crisp, so that the image below appears, or filled. It works by using only white, black and gray to hide or show the parts you fill.
So, in the layer mask, you can use the brush tool to paint over with black to hide the top layer image, or white to show it more. You can also use tools like the Gradient Tool to smoothly align images horizontally or vertically. You can look at the layer mask thumbnail to see which areas are black and which are white.
You can not necessarily erase what you did in the layer mask, but you can bring back parts of the image with the White Brush tool or get rid of parts with black.
You can also combine layer masks with a layer blend mode to apply specific effects to the image. Then you can add or remove details as you like.
Use the blending mode
Layer Blend Modes add another option for blending two images in Photoshop with different effects. This differs from using opacity alone, as you have more options than just moving from one image to another. But unlike the layer mask method, the blend mode also affects the entire layer to which it is applied.
This is a great way to add subtle textures or patterns to your photos. To use it, you again need to place the images on separate layers first. Then you can find the Blending Mode drop-down menu next to the Opacity option.
Click on that drop-down menu and you will see all available blending modes. They are grouped according to their function. It is normal, shaded, light, contrast, comparative, and components in that order.
For example, a Multiply blend mode will darken the selected image by removing bright whites and darkening grays. This can lead to an interesting effect depending on how you use it. Be sure to try a few different blend modes and see which one gives the desired result. In this image I have used Screen Blending Mode and Layer Mask to achieve this effect.
You can also combine blend modes with opacity if you like. This can help you create even more effects that you may like. Blend Modes and Opacity are two separate features, so you can easily use them together.
Blend into Photoshop with Layer Opacity
Another blending option is to use the layer’s opacity setting. This gives you less control over where one image merges with another. But if you just want a quick way to overlay one image on top of another, this will definitely work.
To do this, place the two images on separate layers in Photoshop Then select the layer you want to make transparent. Keep in mind that the top layer will always cover the bottom layer, and changing the opacity will change how you see the bottom layer.
You can change the opacity of the selected layer by defining the opacity in the upper right corner of the layers panel. You will see a window with a value of 100%. Changing this parameter will change the visibility of the entire layer: 0% means that nothing is visible, and 100% means that the entire layer is visible.
Change the Opacity to whatever is convenient for you. You can always experiment with more or less opacity to see how it looks.
Tips for blending photos in Photoshop
When combining two images together, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you enjoy the final product.
Make sure you post your photos ahead of time the way you want them to appear when combined together. See what details you want to include in the final image and place them with that in mind.

You should also be aware that erasing parts of layers is not an ideal method for combining them. This is because you are permanently deleting parts of the image, and if you decide something is not working, it is not easy to go back and change something.
If you keep trying the same blending method in Photoshop and don’t get the results you want, feel free to experiment with multiple methods. Just make sure you have backups of your photos in case something goes wrong so you can start over if you need to.
