Each web browser requires specific permissions in order for the program to access your microphone and webcam. You can deny access to your microphone and camera to prevent the browser from listening and monitoring you.
Every internet browser does it a little differently, but they all provide you with the tools you need to prevent websites from using your camera and / or microphone. You just need to know where to look.
Once you’ve instructed your favorite browser not to allow websites to use your camera or microphone, you’ll need to go back to the settings below to allow access, for example if you want to record yourself with a webcam.
Otherwise, any website offering to use these devices will not be able to do so. You can finally keep your microphone and webcam connected without worrying about the website listening or watching you privately.
Chrom
Chrome has a global setting that, when enabled, forces you to give permission to every website that requests access to your microphone or camera. If you do this, then the next time the website asks you to use your camera or microphone, you can simply deny it with a pop-up message.
Step 1. Click the dotted menu button in the upper right corner of Chrome, and then select Settings.
Step 2. Scroll down and select “Advanced”.
Step 3: Select Site Settings.
Step 4. Select “Camera” and click the button next to the “Ask before access” box to make sure Chrome requires your permission to access the camera.
Step 5. Click the back arrow in the upper left corner and select “Microphone” to enable the same settings there as well.
You can also block certain sites from using your microphone and / or webcam. This is useful if you have previously provided access to the site, but now want to block it. Or, if you never want to be prompted to allow a site to use your devices, you can follow these steps.
Step 1. Visit the relevant site and click the lock icon to the left of the URL.
Step 2. Select “Site Settings”.
Step 3. Next to “Camera and / or Microphone” select the menu and select “Block”.
Fire fox
The Firefox browser allows you to prevent websites from accessing your camera and microphone from the Privacy & Security settings area.
Step 1. Use the three-line menu in the top right corner of Firefox to access options.
Step 2. Select “Privacy and Security” on the left side of the program.
Step 3. Scroll down to the Permissions area and select Settings next to Camera and / or Microphone.
Step 4. Select “Block new requests requesting access to your camera (or microphone) from below”.
Step 5. Click “Save Changes”.
If in step 3 you see a website already listed, it means that you have already given that website permission to use your webcam and / or microphone. Select a site and click Remove Website to block it. If there are several of them and you do not want any of them to use your webcam or microphone, simply click the “Delete All Websites” button.
Opera
Opera works in much the same way as Chrome, so you can either block certain sites from using your camera / microphone, or make all sites ask you first before they can hear or see you.
Here’s how to enable the global “ask” setting:
Step 1. Select “Settings” from the Opera menu.
Step 2. Expand the “Advanced” item on the left and select “Privacy & Security” below it.
Step 3. Select “Site Settings” on the right.
Step 4. Select a camera and / or microphone.
Step 5. Make sure the Ask Before Access option is enabled.
If you are on a certain website and want to make sure it cannot use your camera or microphone, do the following:
Step 1. Click the lock icon to the left of the URL at the top of Opera
Step 2: Select Site Settings.
Step 3. Select “Block” next to the camera and / or microphone.
Safari
To block a camera or microphone in Safari, go to the Sites area in your browser preferences.
Step 1. Go to Safari> Preferences.
Step 2. Open the “Websites” tab at the top and select “Camera” or “Microphone”.
Step 4: Select the menu at the bottom and select “Deny”. This prevents your webcam or microphone from using websites not listed in the above section. If the website you want to manage is currently open, you can control how soon that website can use your camera and microphone using the menu next to the URL.

Step 1. Right-click or press and hold the “Start” button and select “Settings”.
Step 2. Select “Privacy”.
Step 3. Select “Camera” or “Microphone” on the left panel.
Step 4. Scroll down to Microsoft Edge and click the button next to it to change access to Off.
Internet browser
When a website requests access to your camera or microphone in Internet Explorer, you must select Deny to block it. However, you can also open the Flash Player Settings Manager to prevent all sites from using your camera and microphone.
Step 1. Open the control panel. You can do this from the Start menu or by executing a control command in the Run dialog box (WIN + R).
Step 2. Find flash in Control Panel and open Flash Player when you see it in the list.
Step 3. Go to the “Camera and microphone” tab and select “Prevent all sites from using the camera and microphone.” To block specific sites from using the microphone or webcam, use the Camera and Microphone Settings by Site button to add URLs to the block list.
Yandex Browser
It is very easy to disable your webcam and / or microphone in Yandex Browser. As a result, all sites will not be able to use your microphone and / or camera:
Step 1. Click the button with three lines in the upper right corner of the browser to the left of the minimize button and select “Settings”.
Step 2. Select “Sites” on the left and then “Advanced Site Settings” on the right pane.
Step 3. Select “Denied” under “Camera access and / or Microphone access”.
If you want to manage existing permissions for individual sites for which you have already allowed access, repeat these steps, but instead of selecting Not Allowed, select Advanced Site Settings to choose which sites to allow to terminate.
