They say that anonymity often leads to disrespect, and anyone who spends any time on the Internet knows this to be true. Unfortunately, this is often the case on Facebook, even when your real name is publicly displayed. Sometimes the only way to avoid an unpleasant meeting is to block someone on Facebook Messenger.
Facebook Messenger makes it easy to block bad behavior people with just a few taps or clicks. Send the trolls back under the bridges in a few simple steps.
How To Block Someone On Facebook Messenger From Your Browser
If you prefer to use Facebook Messenger on your computer without an app, you can block someone very quickly and easily.
Just find the conversation you want to block in the sidebar and hover over it. Click the three ellipses that appear. A menu will appear in which you can mute, delete, mark as unread, and a number of other options. At the bottom of this menu is the Block Messages option. Click here.
A pop-up window will appear warning you that you will stop receiving messages and calls from this person. If that’s what you want to do, click on “Block Messages”. Once you do that, you no longer have to worry about receiving spam or any other message from a person.
If at some point you change your mind and want to unblock a person, you can select chat from the sidebar. At the bottom of the screen, a message is displayed: “You have blocked messages from this person.” Click Unblock to receive messages from them again.

The steps to block someone on Facebook Messenger on Android are exactly the same as on iPhone and iPad. Just open a conversation, tap the person’s name, scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and tap Block> Block in Messenger.
Blocking On Messenger Versus Blocking On Facebook
If someone (possibly an older relative) likes to send you chain emails on Facebook, you may not receive messages from them, but you still want to see what they post. Blocking on Facebook Messenger is a great way to get around the problem.
However, if you are dealing with someone who is stalking or threatening you, it is best to block them completely rather than just ignore their messages. In this case, instead of just blocking on Messenger, select the Block on Facebook option. This will completely strip them of access to your Facebook page and prevent them from sending you messages.
To avoid unwanted messages, make sure your Facebook settings limit the number of messages that people you are not friends with can see. Too many users leave their Facebook accounts wide open for everyone to see. Better to limit all information.
If you are at risk of physical injury or feel in danger, contact the appropriate authorities. Don’t assume blocking a person on social media will solve the problem. Better to be overly careful.
