How to Check if Your CPU Temperature is Too High

Posted on October 8, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on How to Check if Your CPU Temperature is Too High

Worried about your CPU temperature being too high? This problem usually only occurs if you are trying to overclock the processor. If you’re a computer geek and know how to overclock something on your computer, you probably don’t need to read this article.

However, as more and more users choose to purchase customized, relatively cheap PCs, now the almost novice can overclock the CPU simply by selecting a different option in the BIOS.

I have previously written about tools you can use to overclock your RAM, CPU and GPU, as well as several tools you can use to test your PC.

When overclocking, you need to closely monitor the temperature of your processor. To find out the processor temperature, you need to download a third-party program that can read the temperature of each processor core.

How to check your CPU temperature

The easiest way to check your CPU temperature is to download Core Temp from alcpu.com Once you’ve downloaded the software, launch the installer and click on the Launch Core Temp box. Finally, click Finish.

When Core Temp is open, you can see the average CPU temperature by looking at the bottom right of the window. You will be able to see the minimum and maximum values ??in degrees Celsius. Below you will see what Core Temp looks like for AMD processor and Intel processor.

These values ??will change as you perform various tasks on your PC. For example, if you are playing a game or running a video editing program, your CPU temperature will rise. It is normal if the temperature changes very quickly.

A good way to test this is to download Prime95, repair the zip file, and then run the EXE file. When the program opens, click on Just Stress Testing. Then run the torture test and select the Mix option.

If you leave the Core Temp open at the same time, within a few seconds you will see the temperature rise sharply.

So, is there any reason for concern at this temperature? Let’s discuss this in the next section.

Perfect CPU temperature when idle or while gaming

Please note that temperatures are still well below 100 degrees Celsius. The ideal processor temperature will depend on your processor. Some processors can get hotter than others.

For the most part, you should aim to keep the temperature below 75 degrees Celsius while gaming or using software.

If your processor is above 75 degrees Celsius, you may start to notice a drop in performance because your processor is limiting its ability to help itself cool – this is known as thermal management. In the Core Temp app, you will notice that the frequency will drop from a maximum to a lower value when thermal regulation occurs.

Regarding idle temperatures, temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius are generally considered “cool”. Your processor must be in this region unless you are running any resource-intensive programs on it.

Fortunately, modern processors are well designed – you do not pose a hazard to your equipment when they reach higher temperatures. If the temperature gets too high it will simply limit your overall performance, so it’s always best to keep things as cool as possible.

The only time something can go wrong is if you have an overclocked processor (Intel processors ending in K) and decide to manually adjust the voltage and frequency in the BIOS. If you do this, you could seriously damage the processor or motherboard. Plus, Windows will almost certainly crash when the processor gets too hot.

Fortunately, Core Temp has overheating protection. Click “Options” and then “Overheat Protection”.

Select the Enable overheating protection checkbox and select one of the three options. By default, it will automatically notify you when a critical temperature is reached. If you want to be more secure, you can also put your computer to sleep, hibernate, or shutdown.

If you click Options and then Settings, you can also make changes to how Core Temp monitors and displays CPU temperature.

You can change the polling interval, display the temperature in Fahrenheit, and even display statistics in the taskbar if you like.

Hopefully this article gives you a little more information on CPU tempos and how you can control them with Core Temp. If you have any questions, please leave a comment. Enjoy!
