How To Create Your Own Font

Posted on October 7, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on How To Create Your Own Font

Fonts can be found online, in the documents you use for work and school, and are built into every program and application. The type of font used can be a determining factor in whether people read your content or immediately reject it because it is too difficult to follow.

You can create your own font for free if you are not happy with all the other fonts. Maybe you don’t even want to look for a new font because you need a custom one, or maybe you’ve tried your best but still can’t find the right font for your project.

How To Create Your Own Font

Below are the best free font makers available. By creating your own typeface, you have complete control over the look of the letters and numbers so you can personalize every aspect of it.

Tip: Not sure how to use your own font? Find out how to install fonts on Windows for help.

FontStruction is a tool on FontStruct (a website where you can download free fonts) that lets you create your own font. If you want a clean design that is as accurate as possible to every pixel, check out this font creator.

It works when you select fields to create a font. Circles, squares, curves, and many unique designs help you create truly personalized fonts.

You have to create a FontStruct account to use the font maker, but it’s completely free and only takes a minute.

You can also find other free fonts in the gallery for inspiration and even download them to use in your projects.

Another web-based font maker is available on the metaflop site. This font builder is very easy to use and highly customizable. There is a list of options you can tweak to make the font exactly what you want. Some of the options you can change are pen width, aspect ratio, tilt, contrast, and angle.

By changing each setting as you create a font, you can see how all uppercase and lowercase letters look, and how font changes look for numbers. A full suggestion is also available to really see what the font will look like when you use it.

An account is not required when using the Metaflop Font Designer. Just go straight ahead and make any changes you want, then download the font by choosing an open type font or a web font.

The font maker in Calligraphr is really interesting because it creates a font based on your handwriting.

Instead of changing settings on their website, you choose what characters you want to customize and then print out a template that you need to fill in with your own handwriting. Upload your document back to their website and wait for your font to build.

After creating the font, you can make adjustments to it online to change the brush size or add other lines. You can export your font to TTF or OTF file.

Calligraphr is completely free, but it puts a limit on the number of fonts you can work with at the same time, and on the number of characters that a font can contain. To remove these and other restrictions, you can pay for the pro version

Fonty

Fonty font maker is an Android app where you trace letters to create a set of fonts based on your handwriting. Writing on the screen is a little more difficult than writing on paper like Calligraphr, but if you want to use your own font on your phone or tablet, this is the way to do it.

You can install the Fonty keyboard from this app if you want your own font to be available in other apps as well.

Some other notable features of this font creator are that it automatically saves your work, supports all sorts of characters (letters, numbers, symbols), lets you add shapes to your font, and lets you really customize each character with an eraser. tool.

FontLab

How To Create Your Own Font

FontLab is not a free font maker, but it is fully functional for 30 days, after which you will have to pay to continue using it. It works on Windows and Mac and has many great features not found in the free font builders listed above.

You can think of this font creator as a kind of Photoshop tool made specifically for creating fonts. There is a powerful brush and pencil for painting, many fine-tuning tools and other ultra-precise editing features. There’s even a tool called FontAudit, which detects inconsistent and strange curves, basically checking your font throughout the build process.

When you’re done creating your own font with FontLab, you can rest assured that it is truly one of a kind. Just remember that while great for precise editing, this program is very cool learning curve and should be your last choice when looking for an easy-to-use font builder.
