How To Disable Siri On a Mac and iOS.
Apple’s Siri virtual assistant can be useful, funny, and sometimes annoying.
You can ask him to do almost everything for you, from translating to getting weather or news information, schedule calls and send text messages, find bedtime stories or movie schedules, or check your email if you’re too lazy to do so. yourself.
Prior to Siri, iOS users had voice control, although it has fewer features and allows you to control the Phone, Music, and FaceTime apps only by speaking into the iPhone microphone.
Siri has replaced voice control to make it much easier for you to complete tasks, but it also has quite a few bugs. Plus, if you’re too worried about your privacy, you don’t need Siri to listen every time you speak.
If you don’t use Siri, or really hate it and want a Kill Siri button added to your Mac or iOS device, we’ll show you how to turn it off on your Apple device. However, you should be aware that disabling Siri means that you cannot use any kind of voice control, be it voice typing or dictation.
How to disable Siri on your iOS device
There are two ways to disable Siri on your iOS device: partially by disabling just a few features you don’t need, or completely disable Siri on your device’s lock screen.
Both of these settings can be turned on or off in the Settings app by going to the Siri and Search menu.
For example, if you choose to turn off a feature that allows Siri to actively listen to “Hey Siri,†it disables that setting so Siri won’t be accidentally activated.
If you just want to disable or disable Siri entirely, you can disable it entirely by going to Settings Siri & Search and turning off Listen Hey Siri and Side Button Press for Siri Settings.
Your iOS device will display a warning that Siri is disabled, so tap Turn Siri off to completely disable and turn it off on your device.
After disabling Siri on iOS, the next step is usually to remove all voice data from what you told it, which is transmitted to Apple’s servers and remains there for up to two years.
You can only delete such voice data from servers by turning off Siri, and also turning off Dictation so that everything is deleted.

How to disable Siri on a Mac
Disabling Siri on Mac is as easy as it is on an iOS device.
- Click the Apple menu, choose System Preferences, and then click Siri.
- Uncheck the box next to Ask Siri to completely disable Siri on Mac.
If you want to delete any of your voice data saved through Siri on Apple’s servers, you will do the same as with iOS devices: disable or disable dictation.
- To turn Dictation off or on, tap Menu System Preferences and select Keyboard.
- Click Dictation.
- Disable dictation. This not only deletes all of your voice data from Apple servers, but also disables voice commands on your Mac.
Why should you remove your audio data from Siri and Apple’s servers
It is very easy to delete or delete your data from Siri and, ultimately, from Apple servers. However, for privacy-minded people, this is important, especially if you are concerned about which digital records Apple might store your conversations with the virtual assistant.
Apple uses this data for testing and rating purposes to improve the service. Contractors initially listened to Siri commands that iOS or Mac users gave the virtual assistant as part of the assessment program, but this has since been put on hold.
However, you can still rethink how you use Siri, but at least now you know how to disable it on your Mac or iOS devices, and how to completely remove any traces of voice data from Siri on Apple’s servers.
- If you want to turn off Siri history collection, go to Settings Privacy and click Analytics & Improvements at the bottom of the Privacy screen.
- Disable Enhance Siri and Dictation if enabled, as it means your iOS device can exchange voice snippets with Apple.
If you’ve disabled this option, you can rest assured that Apple won’t be able to view or save audio recordings of your future interactions from your device.
Note. For users with multiple iOS devices, disabling Enhance Siri and Dictation on any device will not disable it on all of your devices. You have to turn it off separately on each of the iOS devices you use.
