A steep start signal feels more natural. But by default, there is no trigger signal in Chrome OS. Fortunately, there is an option to enable them on your Chromebook. Here’s how to do it.

Enable Start-up Chime from the settings

We have the option to enable the startup beep for Chromebook in the setup itself. To turn on the startup sound, click the clock in the lower right corner and click the settings icon.

Now scroll down to the very bottom again to find the Play Sound on Startup option and activate it. That’s it, you can now restart your Chromebook to see the startup beep.

This is just a beep, and if you are not happy with the original beep you are receiving, you can check the alternatives.

Chime initiation using extension

To get various sound options, open the Chrome Web Store, search for “launch sound for Chromebook” and select the extension from BrowserNative. Alternatively, you can also follow this link. Now click the Add to Chrome button and click the Add Extension button in the pop-up window to install the extension in Chrome.

If you’ve used Windows or Mac before, you can choose these options for nostalgia. Anyway, you can listen to sounds right here by clicking the play button after selecting a sound.

Once selected, click “Save” and restart your device. One caveat: you hear a beep when you log in, not on the lock screen. Be that as it may, the sound seems natural and out of place.
