Charge AirPods
Your AirPods must be sufficiently charged if they are going to work. Even though this is 2019, most of us are still not used to wireless headphones. Making sure they stay charged is not second nature yet. You should get in the habit of charging your AirPods when not in use.
There is also a possibility that the battery in the AirPod charging case is dead or flat. Obviously, without battery power, your AirPods cannot be charged. Instead, you can leave the AirPod charging case connected to your Mac to maintain a constant charging dock for your AirPods.
Keep MacOS up to date
To connect AirPods to Mac, you need to have the latest version on macOS. Not only that, but it’s good to have a habit of constantly updating information. This ensures that all devices function correctly. It might be worth checking if your Mac is currently running the latest version of macOS.
- To see the latest version, open the App Store and click the Updates button at the top.
- Select the Download All Updates option.
- Allow the Mac computer to restart if prompted to do so for the changes to take effect.
Most likely you have already updated to the latest version. Most of us tend to download updates as soon as they are provided. Turn on Bluetooth on Mac

Sometimes you forget what you have done hundreds of times before, or you remember, but Bluetooth decided to work incorrectly, or this is your first time trying to establish a connection and do not know how to turn it on. However, we have a solution.
- On your Mac, you can turn Bluetooth on by opening System Preferences, select Bluetooth, and see if it’s currently on.

AirPods may need to be re-paired

- Place the AirPods back in the charging case with the lid ajar. Do this so that you can see a blinking white light to indicate the AirPods are pairing with another device of yours.
- If you followed the instructions, Bluetooth should already be enabled on your Mac. If not, do so now.
- Then press and hold the Setup button on the back of the AirPods and wait for the white light to flash.
- Once the light starts blinking, your AirPods should connect to your Mac.

AirPods should appear as output device
