How to Fixing Black Screen Issues on Fire TV Stick 2021.
Has your Fire TV Stick suddenly disconnected while streaming your favorite Netflix TV show? Or is it not loading after a black screen? In this guide, we’ve put together a few troubleshooting solutions to help you fix your Fire TV Stick issue. Don’t miss them.
This happens for several reasons. In many cases, your TV will display a black screen if it is not receiving input from the Fire TV Stick. This is often due to improper cable connections, insufficient power (on the Fire TV Stick), etc.
Without further ado, let’s get to the solutions.
Note. The solutions in this guide can also be applied to fix black screen issues on Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick Lite.
1. Check TV’s Input Source
Does your TV have multiple HDMI ports? If so, make sure its active input source is set to the HDMI port on which the Fire TV Stick is located. For context, if the streaming card is plugged into the second HDMI port on the TV, make sure the TV’s input source is HDMI 2.
If the TV is set to the wrong input source (such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 3), a black screen may appear. And that might make you think the Fire TV Stick isn’t working.
2. Change Power Source
Connect the USB cable of your device to a working charging adapter, not to a USB port on your TV. The Fire TV Stick requires at least 1A (1A) current to function properly. When connected to a lower power USB port, the Fire TV Stick may get stuck on a black screen.
If your TV’s USB ports are not rated for up to 1A, plug the Fire TV Stick into the USB charging adapter and then into an electrical outlet. Please make sure you are using a real USB cable and power adapter with at least 1 amp rating.
Also, make sure you plug your Fire TV Stick into a working outlet.
3. Reboot the Fire TV Stick
Restarting the Fire TV Stick can also fix the black screen issue. You can restart the Fire TV Stick with either the remote control or a hard reset. Hold down the Select button and the Play / Pause button at the same time for at least five (5) seconds. This will turn off the Fire TV Stick and turn it on immediately.
To completely reset your Fire TV Stick, unplug it from the electrical outlet, wait about a minute, and then plug it back in.
4. Leave Fire TV to Cool Off
Overheating also causes a black screen issue as well as other performance-related issues. If the streaming device is too close to a TV or other electronic device, it may overheat. Another cause of overheating is running too many apps and add-ons on the Fire TV Stick.
If your Fire TV Stick gets stuck on a black screen, unplug it from your USB power source. Let it cool down for about 10-30 minutes and then plug it back in.
5. Check Your Cable Connection
Another thing you need to check is the connection between your TV and Fire TV Stick. Make sure the Fire TV Stick is properly inserted into your TV’s HDMI port. If the black screen problem persists, try using an HDMI extension cable. One of these comes bundled with the Fire TV Stick.
Amazon recommends connecting your Fire TV Stick to your TV using an HDMI extension cable. This helps improve signal reception from the remote control and optimizes the Wi-Fi connection. Using a repeater also prevents performance issues like black screen issue.
You can also try inserting the Fire TV Stick into a different HDMI port on your TV. If your TV has one HDMI port, connect another device to it and check if it works. If other devices also cannot work properly with the port, it means that your TV’s HDMI port is damaged. In this case, you need to fix the TV.
6. Check Your Internet Connection
The Fire TV Stick can sometimes go dark when unable to connect to the Amazon server. This is especially the case when you set up your Fire TV Stick for the first time.
To fix this, make sure your Wi-Fi router is turned on and transmitting data. Also, make sure you still have a valid internet plan / subscription. We also recommend turning the router off and on again, especially if other devices are also unable to connect to the router. Finally, plug the Fire TV Stick into a different network and see if it boots after a black screen.

7. Fix App-Related Glitches
Is your Fire TV Stick stuck on a black screen frequently when launching a specific app? This could be due to a temporary problem with the application; clearing the cache can restore the application to work.
Go to Settings> Apps> Manage Installed Apps. Select the affected application and click “Clear cache”.
The problem can also be related to bugs in the application. Fortunately, app developers are releasing updates to fix these bugs. Update affected apps to the latest version and check if that solves the black screen issue.
Go to Settings> Notifications and click on the App Updates card on the page. Then select the app you want to update and click the Update button.
Alternatively, you can turn on Automatic Application Updates. This way, the Fire TV Stick will automatically install updates and bug fixes. Go to Settings> Apps> App Store and turn on automatic updates.
8. Update Fire OS
You may experience black screen issues if your Fire TV Stick’s operating system is also buggy. Make sure your device has the latest version of Fire OS. Go to Settings> My Fire TV> About and click on Check for Updates.
If any available update is found, it will be downloaded and installed automatically. So make sure your internet connection is fast and active.
Get Your Fire TV Stick Repaired
If none of the above solutions fix the black screen issue, you should contact Amazon Device Support for assistance. The issue could be due to potential damage to the Fire TV Stick hardware.
