One of the few features that has remained in the Pixel 4 from the Pixel 3 is Active Edge. It lets you shrink your phone to launch Google Assistant or mute calls. But did you know that with a third-party Android app, you can even remap it to launch any app, switch flashlight, control media, and more. Sounds interesting? Let’s see how to do it.

Remap Pixel 3 Active Edge

Let’s start by using the Button Mapper Android app and its desktop client. Follow the steps.

1. Open Button Mapper, it will automatically detect your Pixel device and give you the “Active Edge” option right at the top. Click on it to remap the active edge.

2. On the mapping page, when you turn on the Customize radio button, the application prompts you to perform certain actions. Connect your Pixel device to your laptop, download and install the Button Mapper Desktop app.

Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your phone.

5. Post this, click on the “One Click” option right below the “Customize” radio button. You can now reassign Active Edge compression to a specific action, app, shortcuts, media controls, etc. For example, I assigned compression to toggle the flashlight, which is sometimes very handy. You can even map an app like Spotify to YouTube to launch when you tap on your device.

Alternatively, you can also do the same manually using ADB tools. In ADB command prompt, run the following command. ./adb shell sh /data/data/flar2.homebutton/logcat.sh

However, launching an application or shortcut in Button Mapper is not easy. Since the mapping is done on the software side. When you squeeze the Pixel, it first launches Google Assistant for a second and then goes to the custom app.

Final Words

Button Mapper also provides many other options for assigning additional actions to the fingerprint sensor, volume button. However, these features are paid and you will have to shell out $ 2.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding Button Mapper, let me know in the comments below.
