How to remove audio from video on any device
1. Remove audio from video on Windows
Windows does not have built-in software to properly remove audio from video. So, we’re going to use a free software called HandBrake. Download HandBrake, install it like any other Windows software and open it.
Once opened, drag and drop the video you want to remove audio from. Alternatively, select the Open Files option, navigate to the folder where you saved the video, select it, and click the Open button.

Now select a resolution on the right side of the window. If you are unsure, select the resolution of the source video. In my case, I choose “Fast 480p 30fps”.
Go to the Audio tab and click on the little X next to the audio stream.
The above action will delete the audio stream. Now press the button “Start coding”.
As soon as you click the button, HandBrake will start the removal and conversion process. Just sit back and wait. After that, you will see a message about the completion of the process at the bottom of the window. You can find the processed video in the output folder.

2. Remove audio from video on Mac
On Mac, you can remove audio from a video using iMovie. However, for such a simple task, the process is rather cumbersome and complicated. So, we’re going to use a free and lightweight software called MPEG Streamclip.
Download MPEG Streamclip and install it. After installation, open it. Now select “File” and then “Open Files”. Navigate to where you saved the video and select it.
The above action will open the video in MPEG Streamline. To remove a sound, we need to export it. So, go to “File” and select the export format. Since you have a Mac, QuickTime is the smartest choice. That being said, you can choose any format that you like. In my case, I chose “QuickTime”.
On the next screen, select No Sound from the drop-down menu next to Sound and click the Make Movie button.
You will be prompted to name the file and select a destination. Do this and click the “Save” button.
That’s all. Within a few minutes MPEG will remove audio from the video. You can find the processed video at the location of your choice.

The app will show a warning that the process will remove the sound. Since this is what we want, click the Save button.
As soon as you click on the button, the app will instantly remove the sound and export it to its default location. You can see the default save location in the Export Path section.
You can access the exported file using any file explorer or video player.

4. Remove audio from video on iPhone
If you’re using an iPhone, you’d be glad to know that you don’t even need an additional app to remove audio from your video. You can simply use the iMovie app that Apple already provides to get the job done perfectly.
First, open the Photos app and select the video you want to edit.
Then click the Edit button or the three sliders icon.
This should open up edit mode in which you have to click on the bottom 3-dot icon and from there select iMovie.
While in iMovie, just toggle the sound icon right below the time slider and you should have the video with sound removed.
Then click Finish and you’re done.
Don’t worry, we know older iPhones don’t come with iMovie and given their large size, downloading it from the App Store just for this simple thing can be tricky. If you are using an old iPhone, we can help you.
We are going to use a completely free application called Mute Video.
Open the app and you will see a library of all videos from your phone.
Select the video you want to remove audio from. Once you open the video, you should see a slider or volume control. Adjust the volume accordingly; in this case we are going to move it all the way to the left, that is, completely mute the sound.
While iMovie offers a lot more features and is a better overall app than Mute Video, it’s just more practical to use Mute Video if someone just wants to remove audio from a video.
