Waiting for the download in the Play Store is one of the problems you may encounter when installing new applications on your Android device from the Google Play Store. When an error occurs, your phone won’t download new apps. Anything you try to download remains pending no matter what you do.
It’s frustrating that you can’t install apps from the Play Store, especially since it’s the only source of reliable app downloads for Android devices. If you run into a problem too, there are several methods you can try and see if they help fix the problem.
Cancel Current Downloads An / Or Updates
One of the possible reasons your Play Store downloads get stuck waiting to download is because many of them are already running on your device. To fix this, you can turn off installation and updates for all apps that you don’t urgently need, and then get the app that you really want to install.
- Launch the Google Play Store on your device.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner.
- On the next screen, select My Apps & Games.
- If you see that any applications or games are currently being updated, cancel their processes by clicking the X next to them.
Download over mobile data if WiFi doesn’t work
Since your application requires internet to download, you need to make sure your internet connection is working. If you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and it stopped working for some reason, you can change the internet source to cellular data in order to download your apps.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and turn on cellular data on your phone.
- Open the Google Play Store on your phone.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner and select “Settings”.
- Select your application download preference on the next screen.
- Turn On Any Network and click Finish.
- Try downloading the app from the Store and it should work.
Turn off the VPN app on your device
Incomplete Play Store download problem can also be caused by VPN app Since VPNs basically spoof your location, this can cause the Google Play Store to think that you are in a different country than you should be according to your device and may pause your downloads.
If so, you really don’t need to do anything to fix this problem. All you have to do is turn off the VPN app on your phone and you should be fine.

Delete Play Store data
Like other apps on your device, the Play Store app also stores its configurations and settings in temporary files on your device. Sometimes these files can cause problems with the Store.
To fix this, just delete the Play Store app files and you should be fine.
- Launch the Settings app on your device.
- Click on the “Apps and” notification option.
- Find the Google Play Store app and tap it.
- Click Storage.
- Select “Empty Storage” and empty files.
- Select “Clear Cache” and clear the cache files.
Uninstall Play Store Updates
If the unresolved issue with downloading the Play Store only occurred after a recent Play Store update, that might be the cause. Fortunately, your device allows you to rollback these updates, and that should fix the problem for you.
- On your device, open the Settings app, tap Apps & notifications and select Google Play App Store.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen and select “Uninstall Updates”.
- A prompt will appear on your screen. Click OK to continue.
Free up your phone memory
Every new app you download to your device requires a certain amount of space. If you are running out of memory on your phone, you need to clear some of the memory before your apps are downloaded.
Insufficient storage space may be causing the issue with pending downloads in the Play Store.
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Click Vault to view the vault details.
- You will find out how much storage it takes up.
- Remove items you think you no longer need to make room for your new applications.
Reset your app preferences
When you install an app that can open certain types of files, your device allows you to set it as the default app for that particular file format. While this is not directly related to the pending downloads issue, it is worth clearing this app’s settings to see if that helps fix the problem.
You can always set the application as the default file opening tool, even if the settings are reset.
- Launch the settings on your phone.
- Click on Apps & Notifications.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select “Reset Application Preferences”.
Reset your device to factory settings
Finally, if nothing works and you still have a problem downloading the Play Store on your phone, your last resort should be to factory reset your phone. It will clear all your configuration, settings and data and allow you to set up your phone from scratch.
Be sure to back up any files you need before erasing data from your device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Click System at the bottom.
- Click Reset Options.
- Select “Erase All Data (Factory Reset)”.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to reset the device to factory settings.
