Discord is a VoIP app that offers many features for gamers, including the ability to stream your games. There are several ways to stream on Discord, and the “Go Live” option is designed specifically for gaming.

In this article, we’ll show you how to start broadcasting on Discord to stream your games on Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhone. And since Go Live only works for games, we’ll also cover how you can share your screen or stream a non-gaming app.
How to Go Live on Discord on Windows or Mac
To use the “Go Live” feature in Discord, you’ll need three things: a Discord account, a standalone Discord app, and access to a Discord server. Keep in mind that you can only share your screen through the Discord app and not through a web browser.
To start streaming to Discord on Windows or Mac, follow these six steps:
Make sure the game you want to stream is open in the background, then open Discord. Log in to the server by selecting its icon in the sidebar.
Enter the voice channel by clicking on it. Anyone on that channel will be able to see your broadcast.
Below the channel list there should be a banner showing the game you are playing. Select the icon that looks like a video camera on the monitor. If it’s not here, see how to manually add a game below.
Select your screen resolution and frames per second (FPS) and click Go Live.
A window should now appear inside Discord showing your live stream. At this point, anyone on the same channel as you will be able to see your live broadcast.
You can stop broadcasting by selecting “Stop Broadcasting” on the banner below the channel list. The icon looks like a monitor with a cross inside the screen.
Note. To stream at 1080p and above or 60fps, you must be a Discord Nitro subscriber.
How to Add a Game to Discord
If Discord doesn’t automatically recognize your game, it won’t give you the “Go Live” option. In this case, you can add the game manually like this:
Select “Settings” (the gear icon next to your name at the bottom of the channel list).
Select Activity Status in the sidebar.
You should see a banner that says “Game not found”. Below it, select Add!
Select the game you want to stream from the drop-down list and select Add Game. You must have a game in the background for it to show up in the dropdown menu.
You should now be able to go live on Discord.
How to Stream Any App on Discord
As we mentioned, one of the main limitations of Discord’s “Go Live” feature is that you can’t stream anything other than games. Luckily, Discord has the usual screen-sharing feature that you can use to do this.
Join a voice channel by clicking on it.
At the bottom of the channel list, select Screen.
In the pop-up window, select the screen or app you want to cast.
Set the channel, resolution, and fps, then select Go Live.
Your stream will now appear as a window inside Discord.
Now you should share your screen with any people in the same voice channel. If screen sharing isn’t working, try these Discord screen sharing fixes.
Note. If you’re sharing a screen and not a specific app (such as a game), Discord won’t stream audio from that app. Check out our guide to troubleshooting audio issues in a Discord stream.
How to Go Live on Discord on iPhone or Android
Discord also offers screen sharing to iPhone and Android users. Fortunately, the process is almost identical for any device. To share your screen, do the following:
Open the Discord app. If you don’t have it, download it from the Google Play Store or Apple Store. Swipe left to access the server list and tap the server icon to join it.
Touch a voice channel to enter it.
In the pop-up window, select Join Voice. Allow Discord access to your microphone if necessary.
Select the screen share icon at the bottom of the channel. It looks like a mobile phone with an arrow pointing away from it.
Select Try it! if prompted. If you have used this feature before, skip this step. Choose Start Now.
You are now sharing your screen with anyone in the same voice channel. To stop streaming, simply select Stop Sharing.
Going Live on Discord is Easy
