How to Sync Local Files From Spotify Desktop To Any Device.

Spotify lets you stream amazing soundtracks, and it has one of the largest playlists for streaming music. But he’s still missing out on a few indie singles and artists. I also certainly don’t find many regional songs due to legal issues. With these exceptions, Spotify gives you the option to stream local songs on the Spotify Desktop app. In fact, you can even sync your playlist with other devices on Spotify and enjoy the same songs on every device. So, here’s how to sync local files from Spotify desktop to any device. However, this is a paid feature and you need to be a premium Spotify user.

Sync local files from Spotify Desktop to any device

1. First, you will need to attach your local Music Playlist folder to Spotify. Here I am going to pin my local folder to Spotify Windows. To do this, go to your Spotify account settings.

2. In Account Settings, scroll down to the Local Files section. To stream local files, you need to enable the slider. Once that is done, you will see two default folder options – Downloads and Music Library. If you have your song and playlists in these folders, you can skip to step 5. Otherwise, we will need to attach our folder. To attach another local folder, click Add Source.

3. After you clicked the Add Source button, you will see a small explorer pop-up window. Go to the song folder on your local computer. Select it and click OK to add the folder.

4. Now that you have selected a folder, it should appear under the Local Files section. Make sure the slider is turned on, otherwise songs from this folder will not be displayed.

5. After you attach the local folder, the songs will be available for streaming on Spotify. To stream local songs, click Local File Library on the right side. It should be present in the “Your Library” section.

6. Once you see your local files, we need to add them to a separate playlist. To do this, click on the 3 dots next to the songs. In the advanced menu go to “Add to Playlist”. The expanded tray will display the names of existing playlists, you can add them to any of them. If you have a lot of local songs and want to stream all of them, I would suggest creating a new playlist. Here I already have a playlist called Local Songs to which I will add 3-4 local songs.

7. After you have added all the songs you want to the playlist, we can now switch to another device. For example, let’s say I want to stream the same songs to my mobile Spotify, I just need to upload a playlist there. The only thing I need to take care of is that I am on the same Wi-Fi network as my laptop. After you connect to the same Wi-Fi network, navigate to your local song playlist in the Spotify mobile app.

8. After you find the playlist, click on it to open the playlist. In it you will see all the local songs, but they will all be gray. You cannot listen to them now. So, we have to download a playlist to stream these local songs. To do this, click the three buttons in the upper right corner and click Download.

This is a one-time process and needs to be done every time you add a new local song. Now that you’ve downloaded the songs, you can go to a different network and you will have a playlist. The best thing about this process is that the songs don’t take up much space. To be precise, if your download preferences are set to normal, each song will take approximately 2.8 MB, where the high one will take 4.7 MB per track, and the very high one can take 9.4 MB per track.
