Typically, an app will ask you for permission to send notifications the first time you open it. It’s easy to just say yes and start using the app. You may not be sure if the notifications will be important.
If you find that some chats are loading your phone too often, you can also turn off notifications for certain contacts. In this article, we’ll show you how to do it all and find peace of mind.
How to Turn Off Notifications for an App on Your iPhone
To turn off iPhone notifications, go to the Settings app. From there, follow these directions.
You can see every app that provides notifications. Tap the app for which you want to turn off notifications.
At the top, you can click the Allow notifications slider to turn it off.
As an alternative to completely disabling app notifications, you can also customize how they look. In the Alerts section of this page, you can:
choose whether notifications should appear on the lock screen, in the notification center, or as banners. If banners are enabled, choose whether they are temporary. Notifications sound. Specify whether the application icon displays icons indicating the number of unread notifications.
At the bottom, you can choose the appearance of notifications on the lock screen. This includes showing previews and grouping notifications.
How to Turn Off Message or Call Notifications

In Messages, click on the chat with the person you want to hide notifications from. Click on the person’s name at the top. Click the slider next to Hide alerts to turn off notifications from alerts.
This will mute the person until you go back and turn the alerts back on. This is a good option if you don’t want to turn off iMessage notifications completely but don’t want to block a person.
Turn Notifications Off Temporarily With Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb is a feature on iPhone that can temporarily turn off notifications until you turn it off or until the scheduled time has elapsed. To start using it, go to the Settings app.
In Settings, select Focus > Do Not Disturb.
Tap the slider next to Do Not Disturb to turn it on.
Alternatively, you can skip going to Settings and swipe down from the top right to open the Control Center and then press the Focus button.
To turn off Do Not Disturb, return to the Settings page or click the Do Not Disturb button in the Control Center.
You can also set a schedule for Do Not Disturb by going to Focus > Do Not Disturb and clicking Add Schedule or Automate. You can set the time for Do Not Disturb to turn on.
