How to Update Your Android Web Browser.
All major Android web browsers receive continuous updates with new features, performance and stability improvements. Updates also play an important role in improving the security of the browser, so installing them is extremely important.
Updating your web browser is a simple matter on any Android phone or tablet. Read on to learn how to update stock and third-party Android browsers such as Google Chrome, Samsung Internet Browser, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge to the latest versions.
Update Your Browser via the Google Play Store
You can get the latest version of any stock or third-party Android browser through the Google Play Store using one of the two methods described below.
Search for a browser and update
1. Open the Google Play Store app from your home screen or app drawer.
2. Enter the name of the browser you want to update, such as Google Chrome. Then press Enter and select your browser from the search results.
3. Click “Update” on the browser store page to update the current version of the application.
Updating via the list of available updates
1. Open Google Play Store, tap your profile picture in the upper right corner of the screen, and select “Manage apps and devices”.
2. Click the Manage tab. Then click “Available Updates” to open a list of all available updates for your Android device.
3. Check the box next to your browser and click the “Update” button to install the new version.
Check for Updates Internally in Google Chrome
Unlike other browsers for Android, you can update Google Chrome through the browser itself. For this:
1. Open Chrome.
2. Open the Chrome menu (select the icon with three dots in the upper right corner of the screen).
3. Select “Update Chrome” at the top of the Google Chrome browser menu to update the browser to the latest version. Then click Relaunch to restart Chrome.
If you don’t see “Update Chrome” in the Chrome menu, it’s likely that your browser has already been updated. However, you can confirm this with Chrome’s built-in security check. Open the Chrome menu and click “Settings” > “Security Check” to access it.
If it says you’re not using the latest version of Chrome, check your browser menu again or update it via the Google Play Store.
Set Up Automatic Browser Updates
Let’s say you want to make sure you always use the latest version of your web browser. In this case, you can tell the Google Play Store to automatically install updates as soon as they become available. You can only enable auto-refresh for your browser. Or you can set the Google Play Store to update all the apps on your Android phone or tablet.
Auto-update only the browser
1. Load the browser store page in the Google Play Store.
2. Tap the “More” icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Check the box next to Enable Automatic Updates.
Automatically update all applications
1. Tap your profile picture in the top right corner of the Google Play Store and select “Settings”.
2. Expand network settings and select Auto-update apps.
3. Choose between “Over any network” and “Only over Wi-Fi”.
