How to use air link quest 2

The Oculus Quest 2 is a powerful standalone headset that uses inside-out tracking to deliver an incredible wireless gaming experience, but it comes at a price. The performance of the headset does not match that of a high-end gaming PC, which means that gaming performance is limited by the capabilities of the headset itself.

However, there is a workaround. With the Oculus connection cable, you can play high-end VR PC games on the Quest. What’s more, you can do it wirelessly with Oculus Air Link.

Oculus Air Link Network Requirements

The Air Link function has strict requirements. While you can enable it even without meeting these requirements, it will greatly impact your performance. Our testing showed that the refresh rate was much slower without proper network bandwidth resulting in a terrible VR experience.

The suggested network for Air Link is a Wi-Fi router that supports Wi-Fi 6. Connect your headset to the 5GHz band; Oculus reports that Air Link performance may fluctuate if the Wi-Fi connection switches between 2.4GHz and 5GHz during a gaming session.

It’s also a good idea to be in the same room as the router during your gaming session, with line-of-sight if possible. Oculus also discourages the use of a mesh network.

Another note that will help: make sure your computer is connected to the router via an Ethernet cable. Air Link works best when the PC is connected to a wired connection and not to a router via a Wi-Fi network.

Oculus Quest 2 Recommended PC Specs

Keep in mind that Air Link simply connects the Quest 2 headset to your computer. Your computer must be VR-ready and meet the minimum specifications, otherwise, it doesn’t matter how strong your network is – it will affect performance.

As for Nvidia, look for at least a GTX 1060 with 6GB of memory or higher. Please note that GTX 1650 is not supported, but GTX 1650 Super is available. Titan X is also supported, as are all Series 20 and Series 30.

As for AMD, anything above the 400 series will work.

The recommended specs are at least an Intel i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X. You will need at least 8 GB of RAM, Windows 10, and at least one USB port unless you plan to use Air Link exclusively.

How to Set Up Oculus Air Link

Setting up Air Link requires a few steps, but anyone can do it.

First of all, get the necessary PC software. Visit oculus.com/setup and select “Download Oculus Rift Software” to download the Oculus PC app.

Install the software and make sure it works. Then you need to put on your headset and then press the Oculus button on the right controller to open the universal menu and then select “Quick Settings” on the left side of the menu. Select Settings > Experimental Features, then check the switch next to Air Link to enable Air Link.

2- Select Oculus Air Link.

At this point, your computer should appear in the list if you have the Oculus software running. Select your computer from the list and then select “Pair”. Wait a few seconds, then when the pairing button changes to Launch, select it.

Your view will change to the main Oculus screen. You will be able to view games not normally available to Quest users. So you can even play SteamVR games without being tied to a computer.

Air Link is still a new feature; as a result, there is no way to disconnect an existing PC from the headset. If you need to link another computer, you need to go back to the “Experimental Features” tab, turn off Air Link and turn it back on.

Air Link Alternatives

If your Wi-Fi isn’t strong enough (a common problem since Wi-Fi 6 isn’t widespread and many people in rural areas have slow connections), you can use a USB cable to connect directly to your computer. Given the mobile nature of many VR games, you will need a longer USB cable.

Oculus sells an official 20-foot cable, but it’s more expensive. Any USB 3.0 cable will do, and some users have even reported that USB 2.0 cables will work in a pinch. In fact, your bond is almost guaranteed to be stronger.

Air Link isn’t perfect, but it’s the only way Oculus Quest 2 gamers can experience games made for other VR headsets. Half-Life: Alyx is arguably the most advanced VR game on the market, and Air Link makes it possible to play it on Quest when it wouldn’t be available otherwise.
