Raising your hands in a face-to-face meeting is an easy and quick way to gauge the mood in a room. The fact that all of your meetings are now online does not mean that you cannot achieve the same.

There are many ways to conduct a survey during a meeting in Microsoft Teams. We’ll cover a few different options, from how to start a Microsoft Teams survey without leaving Microsoft Teams, to sharing surveys created on external survey websites.

Ways to Poll Attendees in a Microsoft Teams Meeting

There are several things to consider when deciding which method to use when conducting a survey in a Microsoft Teams meeting.

  • Should content appear in the Teams chat panel?
  • Can participants follow a link to respond to a survey?
  • Do you want the people you interview to remain anonymous?
  • Should the survey results be instantly available to participants?

We’ll look at several different options and highlight the pros and cons of each.

If you’re already in a meeting, Microsoft Teams lets you create a survey on the fly. Follow these steps to quickly create a poll and post it to a meeting chat.

  1. First, select the Show Conversation icon to display the meeting chat panel.

This method is great for creating a simple last minute Microsoft Teams survey. One drawback is that if your meeting chat is particularly active, the poll can get lost in the chat panel as old messages scroll out of sight.

Option 2: Use the Polly add-in for Microsoft Teams

Polly is another way to add a poll to a Microsoft Teams meeting. Similar to Forms, Polly is a messaging extension that you can add to a Teams meeting or chat. It has many features and options to choose from. You can poll a limited number of people for free, and you can upgrade your Polly account if you have additional needs.

  1. Click the three dots at the bottom of the chat panel and select Messaging Extensions.
  2. Search for Polly in the Find Application box.

The results can be seen by everyone in real time after the survey is closed or hidden from the participants. You can also send the survey to participants immediately or schedule it. Finally, you can manually close a survey or set Polly to close a survey after a specified period of time ranging from five minutes to three months.

Option Four: Link to other survey services

Our final suggestion for conducting a Microsoft Teams in-meeting survey is to create a survey using any of the various survey tools. You can post a link to your poll in the meeting chat. Survey Monkey, Google Forms, Strawpoll, and Mentimeter are some good options for creating surveys.
