Should You Buy a Next-Gen Xbox or PlayStation Console?.2020 is the year of games. Despite numerous delays and the absence of a major gaming conference this year, two all-new consoles will hit store shelves this holiday season. (Sorry Atari VCS, you don’t count!)

Should You Buy a Next-Gen Xbox or PlayStation Console?

The question that worries everyone is simple: do you buy on the first day or is it better to wait a few months and try to get a bundle?

Should You Buy a Next-Gen Xbox or PlayStation Console?

This article will take a look at both the next-gen PlayStation5 and the next-gen Xbox Series X, their starting lineups, backward compatibility, and more to help you decide which one is worth your money.

Issue price

At the time of writing, neither Microsoft nor Sony has announced an exact release date or launch price for their next-gen consoles. Both companies are engaged in a game of chicken, for which consumers seek information. Unfortunately, it also makes it difficult to compare the two based on price alone.

Should You Buy a Next Gen Xbox or PlayStation Console?

Several leaks have suggested that the next-gen PlayStation 5 will retail for $ 499 while the diskless version will retail for $ 399. Considering the Xbox Series X will likely come out at the same price point, it might be a good idea to set aside roughly $ 500 for each console. If you prefer an all-digital library, you can buy it for less.

Variety launch

The lineup for both next-gen consoles is a bit sparse. While many titles have been featured, the vast majority have 2021 release dates. Even those with no 2020 release dates confirmed as release titles are facing pullbacks, most likely due to issues surrounding COVID-19.

One of the most notable PlayStation 5 games was Deathloop from Arkane Studios, but it has now been delayed until 2021. On the other hand, there are still famous games like Astro’s Playroom that will launch alongside the console and others (like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla) that will be available either at launch or shortly thereafter.

The main game for months after the release of the next-gen PlayStation 5 is Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a sequel to the 2018 hit. Godfall is another PlayStation 5 exclusive that has garnered a lot of attention online.

Is PlayStation Now Worth It?

Many third-party games will be available at launch on both consoles. Assassin’s Creed, NBA 2K21, Watch Dogs: Legion, and other similar games will be available shortly after launch. If you’re only looking for exclusive games, the PlayStation 5 currently has the best lineup.

As far as the exclusive front panel goes, the next-generation Xbox Series X lacks a ton of options. The largest game (and most likely seller of the system) was Halo Infinite, but it has now been pushed back to 2021. The only real exclusive is Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and even this is only a temporary exclusive – one with a rather niche audience.

None of the consoles have been named yet, but there aren’t many new games to play on day one at the moment.

Backward compatibility

The main reason to choose the next-gen PlayStation or the next-gen Xbox right now is for backward compatibility. Xbox Series X will launch with backward compatibility with numerous original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One titles. According to Microsoft, it will be the most backward-compatible console ever.

He will also have access to all the games in the Game Pass library – over 100 titles, all handpicked and selected by Microsoft. This allows gamers on a budget to choose the Xbox Series X and play their favorite games from the current generation to new games that take full advantage of the next generation spec release capabilities.

However, the PlayStation 5 is not inferior in backward compatibility. Backward compatible with PlayStation 4 games and PlayStation VR It is not clear yet if it will be backward compatible with previous generations.

Given what is known about the architecture of the PlayStation 3. It is unlikely that the PlayStation 5 will be able to run PS3 games natively. Sony is likely to look to a different solution like PlayStation Now to emulate rather than run PlayStation 3 games.

It should be borne in mind that your favorite games of this generation will run smoother and provide better performance on next-generation consoles, so if you have a game that is not working perfectly you would like to give it a try. It might be worth buying one of the next consoles generations.

Technical specifications

The specs of the next-gen Xbox and the next-gen PlayStation have been the focus of most of the discussions about the two consoles. Here’s what has been shown so far.

Should You Buy a Next Gen Xbox or PlayStation Console?

Xbox Series X features the following:

  • 3.8GHz AMD Zen 2 Custom Processor
  • 1TB NVMe SSD
  • 16 GB GDDR6 memory
  • 12 teraflops of RDNA 2 GPU

The PlayStation 5 has the following specifications:

  • 3.5GHz AMD Zen 2 CPU
  • Custom 825GB SSD
  • 16GB GDDR6 memory
  • 10.28 teraflops of RDNA 2 GPU

Technically speaking, the next-generation Xbox Series X is more powerful than the next-generation PlayStation 5. If your focus is on performance and graphics, Xbox Series X is the best choice of the two.

Which controller should you buy?

Both the next-gen consoles for Xbox and PlayStation are monsters. The power that Microsoft and Sony were able to put into these machines is impressive. But there is no choice between them. This choice is entirely up to your personal preference.

If you are a Sony fan with a huge PS4 library, then PlayStation 5 will give you the ability to play all your current games. As well as new ones with higher performance. If you’re an Xbox fan, Series X’s backward compatibility will keep you going back to old favorites.

However, if you’re solely focusing on exclusives and new games. It might be better to wait after the pack is released as there are a few games worth buying a new console for, at least right now.
