The five best modpacks for Minecraft

The five best modpacks for Minecraft.

Minecraft is more than a game, it is a phenomenon. While the base game (or “vanilla” Minecraft) is still fun, if you’ve played it for hundreds or thousands of hours, you might want to do something new.

Below are five of the best mod packs for Minecraft that will transform it into a brand new game.

The five best modpacks for Minecraft

1. R.A.D. Roguelike Adventure and Dungeons

Minecraft spawns a huge world full of ore, monsters, and caves, but exploration beyond a certain point is rarely useful. Once you find the resources you need and build your base, you’re done. Even the loot found in old mines and citadels is not particularly attractive.

Roguelike Adventure and Dungeons, or R.A.D., addresses this problem by shifting the focus of the game from building to exploration and combat. It introduces multiple level systems, spatial doorways, and many new enemies, many of which are incredibly dangerous even for high-level players.

In fact, enemies get stronger the longer you spend in the game. Even the land is not safe. Plants like Ash Blossom can randomly set you on fire just by walking over them. R.A.D. is a sophisticated Minecraft mod pack that brings all the complexities of its namesake to the world of Minecraft.

This is a fun set to spend time in, but it will take you a while to learn how the various mechanics work. Fortunately, R.A.D. has detailed in-game guides that you can refer to if you don’t know how things work.

2. Sky Factory 4

Sky Factory is one of the most famous Minecraft modpacks. Based on the “sky block” premise, players start with one block in the sky and should expand outward. In Sky Factory 4, trees are the main method of harvesting resources, and the package features various trees: sand, coal, iron, etc.

Players use these trees to gather the resources they need until their base grows even larger, and then other game resources can be added. Mods like Mekanism, Tinkerers, Better Advancements and more make up the entire modpack and bring the Minecraft world to life in brand new ways.

The main task is to work out a huge list of achievements. This list also acts as a pseudo-guide, telling players what steps they should take next. However, Sky Factory 4 is not a short modpack for Minecraft. It will take hours after hours of play to even reach the middle of the game, but each phase of the mod is completely different.

The first part of Sky Factory 4 focuses on gathering resources, but over time, players can automate much of this and move on to exploring new dimensions, improving their armor, and more. There’s a reason Sky Factory 4 is often featured on Twitch streams: it’s so much fun to play and just as fun to watch.

3. Stoneblock 2

Stoneblock is a kind of modpack, the opposite of Sky Factory. Instead of starting with a single block in the sky, you start with a single room deep underground, surrounded on all sides by rock. With no tools other than fists, you must collect equipment and complete a series of quests.

Like Sky Factory, Stoneblock has a huge amount of mods included. For each completed quest, you receive a reward. Most of them are random, and often you will receive items that you absolutely do not need at the moment (although they will come in handy later). This is another progress-oriented modpack that can be a little tricky at times.

You have to explore many dimensions, fight mobs, and find treasures. While the underground adventure may seem depressing, the gameplay is so varied that you’ll forget you’re so far from the sun.

Stoneblock is a unique challenge that will let you play until the morning. Tip: Invest in flashlights early. It is dark underground and mobs spawn in dimly lit areas. Nothing says “Welcome to Minecraft” like an unexpected creeper in the middle of your base.

4. RLCraft

If you’ve mastered the basic Minecraft game and are looking for something new, RLCraft is your choice. This Minecraft modpack presents an extremely challenging task, especially in the beginning. It is focused on survival and requires you to manage food, water, temperature, and other factors.

If you find water, you need to purify it. Food needs to be prepared. RLCraft also doesn’t use the traditional Minecraft health system. Each part of the body has its own health system, as well as a general system for your body and head. A fall can injure your legs, and an enemy attack can injure your hands.

If a critical area is damaged, you can die no matter how much health the rest of your body has. This puts more emphasis on the armor and protects the soft parts of the body.

The modpack also has an extensive skill system that you can level up over time by choosing the abilities that best suit your playstyle. You have to discover many new mobs, both hostile and non-hostile, as well as a different crafting system. Auto-selection of items is disabled; instead, you must manually collect each drop.

RLCraft is not the best modpack for newbies due to its incredible difficulty curve, but it is a good choice for experienced players looking for a new challenge.

5. Pixelmon

Pokemon? In Minecraft? Who would have thought? However, that’s exactly what Pixelmon is. You choose your starting Pokemon and go on a journey. Sounds simple enough, but the Pixelmon modpack is tricky. The first goal is to find a city because you will definitely need a Pokémon Center. Your starter will quickly fail.

Pixelmon is best played in multiplayer mode rather than a single player, but the good news is there are multiple servers to choose from. You can build and craft in Pixelmon just like in regular Minecraft; in fact, you should. You can buy Pokeballs at Pokemarts, but they are expensive early in the game.

You can find a huge number of Pokémon depicted in a style that makes them look as big as they should be. For example, Kangaskan and Suikun are massive, unlike Patrata or Ekansa, which are both small. Catch them all, play sports, and even ride Pokémon around the world.

If you love Minecraft and Pokemon, find a public server, and play Pixelmon. While there are some weird glitches, this is an interesting experience worth trying for yourself.
