The Unagi Model One E-Scooter: A Review.

Unagi Model One is a powerful electric scooter with an unusual futuristic design. It is a great vehicle for short trips to the city center, everyday trips to the park on weekends, and getting to work on a busy day. It is lightweight, portable, but the main highlight of this scooter is its style. When you ride the Unagi Model One, you’re sure to be dizzy wherever you go.

The Unagi Model One E-Scooter : A Review

Pros Outstanding design. Lightweight. Portability thanks to quick folding mechanism. Large and clear LCD display. Equipped with bright LEDs for night driving. There is no lagging app you need to install in order to activate and use the scooter. Doesn’t have the typical “rough” look of a scooter, but it doesn’t look like a child’s toy either. Cons High price ($ 790 to $ 890). Not as smooth as you might expect. Short distances on a single charge.

Unagi Model One: The Style

What sets the Unagi Model One apart from others is its looks. This is a scooter that you will love on the road. The Model One’s sleek design and futuristic shape make it clear to everyone that this is the premium micromobile they’re looking at.

Unlike other electric scooters, which have a rugged feel, the Unagi looks extremely smooth with its lightweight carbon fiber tubes, three layers of high-tech paint and a silicone-coated deck. The deck has a good grip, which ensures that your feet will never slip. Keep in mind, however, that the built-in silicone at the top of the deck gets dirty easily and can ruin the overall look of your scooter.

There are no dangling wires around the body of the scooter, and the ergonomic steering wheel with rubberized grips is just a pleasure to hold on to. This Unagi Model One style is impeccable and you can see that every little thing has been thought out here.

The Price & Model Selection

The analogue of the Unagi Model One style is its price. The Unagi Model One comes in two configurations. The E250 single engine version costs $ 840, while the E500 twin engine version will set you back $ 990. Needless to say, for an eclectic scooter, this seems a little cool. Both the E250 and E500 are available in 4 color options: Space Blue, Matte Black, Sea Salt, and Crimson Fire.

The model we tested is the twin-engined E500. While the E250 isn’t quite as powerful and probably struggles to climb the same hills as the E500, the single-engine model weighs just 23 pounds. Compared to the 26.5lb E500, this doesn’t seem like much of a difference at first. But if you walk a few flights of stairs with a scooter in hand, trust me, you will notice the difference.

The Folding Mechanism

Another major selling point for the Unagi Model One is its one-click folding mechanism. One click is enough to fold the scooter, whether you need to drag it up the stairs, take it with you on the train or leave it in the car.

This is what makes the Model One one of the most portable e-scooters on the market. This and the fact that it weighs only 12 kg. If you’ve ever used a public scooter to get around town, you’ve probably noticed how heavy it is (usually around 35-40 pounds or up to 19 kg).

The Performance: You Win Some, You Lose Some

The Unagi Model One is a twin 250-watt electric scooter, a powerful electronic scooter. It has 3 riding modes: for beginners, for advanced and for professionals. The first mode is only good for getting used to the scooter and testing it out when you first grab it with your hands (and feet). The second mode works well on flat surfaces and straight roads. If you have to climb hills, Pro 3 is your only option.

Using Mode 3, you can actually climb uphill at around 12-15 mph, depending on the rider’s weight. When it comes to weight, the Unagi Model One lists a rider’s weight limit of 275 pounds. Of course, we had to test it to see if the Model One could hold more, so we put two people on it. Weighing in at around 308 pounds, the Model One can still climb uphill, albeit at a significantly slower rate, and we managed to get a total of 5 miles (just over 8 km) on a single charge.

Note: We must remind you that you should not ride the Model One with anyone, and we did this for testing purposes only.

Unagi uses 7.5-inch rubber wheels for the Model One. They are puncture resistant and therefore require no maintenance. However, as soon as you get off the smooth road and try to use the Model One on some imperfect surface, you will notice a decrease in comfort.

Throttle and brake controls are integrated into the steering wheel. There is no cruise control here, so you have to keep your thumb on the accelerator pedal to keep going. The downside is that it gets pretty tiresome after a while if you are going to travel for a longer period. However, it also eliminates the danger of losing balance and falling off the scooter if you need to brake and stop immediately.

The scooter already has everything you need for night riding. If you are driving in poor visibility conditions, you will be able to see everything thanks to the hidden 47 lumen LED front light, while the red LED rear light ensures that you will be noticed on the road. … The nice thing is that you don’t need to install anything extra, and you can just take your Model One on the road right out of the box.

The Battery Life: Shorter Than Expected

Depending on your weight and riding conditions, the Unagi Model One can last 5 to 9.5 miles (approximately 8 to 15 km) on a single charge. We found this to be disappointing as the Model One’s claimed range is 15.5 miles, which we weren’t able to achieve even in seemingly ideal conditions with a rider weighing 123 pounds.

The Unagi Model One E-Scooter : A Review

If you are looking for a scooter with a longer range, the Unagi Model One is not the best choice. However, Unagi is offering a free additional charger in exchange for completing the survey. Thus, you can leave one charger at home and take the other with you to work. If you charge the scooter during operation, you guarantee that you will not run out of power on the way back. And even if you do, you can still use the Unagi Model One as a regular scooter if there are no steep hills on the way home.

Should You Buy an Unagi Model One?

This is not to say that the Unagi Model One is the perfect electric scooter for everyone, but it may be the perfect scooter for you. If you need a scooter to run long miles at a time and want to ride with someone else, then you should keep looking. But if you are looking for a lightweight yet powerful portable electric scooter that does not require much maintenance and looks unique and stylish, then you should consider purchasing the Unagi.
