There are 9 ways to fix slow downloads in the Windows Store.

Are you continuing to experience slow downloads from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10? This is probably the last thing you want to deal with when downloading a large app or hefty video game that is tens of gigabytes in size.

If your internet is incredibly fast elsewhere on your computer, then there are a few fixes you can use to fix the Microsoft Store slow loading issue. They can also help fix common Microsoft Store-related connectivity issues.

Quick Fixes When Microsoft Store Downloads Slow

There are a few quick fixes you can try before you start troubleshooting Microsoft Store issues.

Pause other downloads

Do not perform concurrent downloads in another program or browser. This limits the bandwidth that the Microsoft Store has access to.

Restart your router

If you have a poor internet connection outside of the Microsoft Store, try turning off your router. Wait a few seconds and turn it back on.

Disable VPN

VPNs help keep your privacy, but they can also slow you down. If you have a VPN set up, try disabling it.

Pause Antivirus Utility

Are you using a third-party antivirus utility? Try to pause it while downloading from the Microsoft Store.

Restart your computer

As strange as it sounds, restarting your computer can solve a lot of everyday problems. Do this and see if the Microsoft Store is starting to download apps and updates faster.

1. Run Windows Store Troubleshooter

Windows 10 comes with a built-in troubleshooter that can help fix basic Microsoft Store issues like slow downloads. Try it.

1. Open the Start menu, enter troubleshooting options and select Open.

2. Select Advanced troubleshooters.

3. Scroll down and select Windows Store Apps. Then select “Run the troubleshooter”.

Follow the instructions in the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter to resolve any issues you find.

2. Configure Delivery Optimization

Delivery Optimization is a built-in Windows 10 service that speeds up slow Microsoft Store downloads by using peer-to-peer transmission from other computers. Make sure it’s on.

1. Open the “Start” menu and select “Settings”.

2. Select “Update & Security”.

3. Click the Delivery Optimization tab.

4. If disabled, click the radio button next to Allow downloads from other computers.

By default, Delivery Optimization will use a PC on my local network.

If you haven’t noticed an improvement in download speed in the Microsoft Store after you’ve turned on Delivery Optimization (or if you’ve already turned on the feature), select the radio button next to PC on my local network and PC on the Internet instead. This should provide access to optimize delivery to a wider range of computers outside of your local network.

3. Remove Delivery Optimization Limits

Your computer may have bandwidth limitations that limit delivery optimization. To remove them, select Advanced Options at the bottom of the Delivery Optimization panel.

On the Advanced Options screen, clear the checkboxes under the Absolute Bandwidth or Percentage of Measured Bandwidth section.

This should prompt Windows 10 to dynamically throttle the bandwidth available to the Microsoft Store.

Alternatively, you can allow Delivery Optimization unlimited access to all available bandwidth. Click the radio button to the Percentage of Measured Bandwidth, check both boxes below it, and drag each slider to 100%.

4. Update Windows 10

Have you ever updated Windows 10? If not, try it now. Microsoft Store is a native Windows app. Therefore, an operating system update should also update the Microsoft Store and fix any known issues that cause slow loading.

1. Open the “Start” menu, type “Windows update” and select “Open.”

2. Click the Check for Updates button.

Microsoft Store is still slow to download apps and updates? Try clearing its cache. To do this, press Windows + R to open the Run window. Then enter wsreset.exe and click OK.

You should see an empty command line console. Wait for it to clear the Microsoft Store cache.

After that, the Microsoft Store should open automatically. Check if clearing the cache while loading anything helped.

6. Sign Out and Sign Back In

Signing out of the Microsoft Store and then signing back in is another effective solution that can help resolve download issues related to the Microsoft Store.

1. Open the Microsoft Store and select your profile picture in the upper right corner of the window.

2. Select your Microsoft account.

3. Select “Exit”.

4. Restart your computer.

5. Open Microsoft Store. Then select a blank profile portrait in the upper right corner of the screen and log in again.

7. Reset Microsoft Store

Resetting the Microsoft Store not only clears the associated cache but also reverts the program to its defaults. This can help you deal with misconfigured or incorrect settings that are preventing Microsoft Store from working properly.

1. Right-click the Start menu and select Applications and Features.

2. Scroll down and select Microsoft Store. Then select Advanced Options.

8. Change DNS

Try changing the DNS settings on your computer to a popular DNS service like Google DNS. While this does not directly affect the download speed of the Microsoft Store, a new set of DNS addresses can help an app connect to a faster download server.

1. Open the “Start” menu and select “Settings”.

2. Select an Internet connection on the Wi-Fi or Ethernet tab.

9. Re-register Microsoft Store

Are you still experiencing slow downloads in the Microsoft Store? Then it’s time to re-register the Microsoft Store. While this sounds complicated, it all requires running one command using Windows PowerShell.

1. Right-click the Start menu and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).

2. Paste the following command:

Get-AppXPackage * Microsoft.WindowsStore * | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$ ($ _. InstallLocation) AppXManifest.xml”}
