Organizing flight reservations, hotel reservations and car rentals can be tedious and time-consuming. Fortunately, there are free travel apps that can not only combine all these tasks, but also provide destination tips.
Which travel app is best for you? How do you know which to use? There are several options, but we’ve narrowed them down to two: Google Trips and TripIt
Here is a list of things to do when it comes to choosing the right service:
- Easy to use and mostly automatic route creation
- Share your route with others
- Automatic updates for flight changes.
- Synchronize data across multiple devices.
- User-friendly and easy-to-use user interface.

Tip. You can also use a travel app to help you find travel deals.
Trip it
TripIt provides both free and paid services ($ 49 per year) for those who travel frequently. TripIt Pro includes several additional features such as real-time flight alerts, seat tracking and alternative flight search. However, for most of us, the free version should be sufficient.

TripIt is easy to implement. Simply send TripIt all confirmation emails for the services you’ve purchased (e.g. hotels, car rentals, tours) and the app will instantly create a travel schedule that’s right for you. You can also ask him to scan your email for new confirmations so he can automatically add and organize them into trips in the app.
The TripIt travel app not only brings all the services in one place, but also tells you when to arrive at the gate, when to pick up your vehicle and when you can check in at your hotel. TripIt even stores all your restaurant orders in one place!
We also love the alerts you can turn on in the TripIt app. You can be notified of when booking emails were received, when an upcoming trip is approaching (as if you had forgotten!), And when the trip itinerary was posted.
TripIt also has a handy calendar subscription feature built in so you can share your travel calendar (as an ICS file) with anyone, and all they have to do is add your feed URL to their calendar. It’s so easy to share your travel plans with calendar events.
Google Trips
Google has joined their own personalized pocket guide app known as Google Trips. When you sign up for Google Trips, Google automatically syncs the app with your Gmail account, so reservations are immediately added to your travel schedule, which is great. You can also enter your own reservations manually.

The Google Trips app also has an offline mode that allows you to open your schedule even when you don’t have an internet connection, perfect when you don’t have cellular or Wi-Fi to save battery power when needed. Offline mode also works for the entire destination guide.
This is all starting to sound similar, right? The biggest difference between Google Trips is the combination of data from Google Maps and content posted by people about restaurants, tourist attractions, attractions, and more. The To Do tab shows local attractions such as historic sites, museums, parks, shops, and attractions for children.
Google Trips also has helpful transportation information, including walking routes, ride-sharing services, and public transportation. While looking for a trip, you can access information about local restaurants, bars and clubs, or even where to have a good coffee.
As an added bonus, Google Trips has a discounts tab that varies by destination, but can include things like car rentals, plane tickets, tours, activities, and even some restaurants.
If you are not sure if you really want to visit a particular place during your trip, simply mark it as a place you might visit and it will be saved in Saved Places. It’s a great way to plan a challenging trip without feeling tied to a super-tight schedule. All your saved places can be viewed on Google Maps, allowing you to see all your potential visits.
The differences
There is no one stopping you from using both services, but the key difference between TripIt and Google Trips is the specifics of travel itineraries or Google lacks. For example, TripIt allows you to add an additional traveler who can share suggestions and edit trips, which is extremely useful if you are taking someone with you, but they also have travel ideas.
What Google Trips really does offer is their ability to combine suggested day trips with the Google Maps plan. This allows you to browse sites in interesting lists, making the service more like a personal electronic travel guide.

Plus, Google Trips are easier to use. You can install the app, log into your Google account and see all your past and upcoming trips in literally seconds. If you use Google Trips, you’ll quickly find things to do in your new city and restaurants on the go.
TripIt also includes an auto-add feature from email, but it’s not that convenient. However, it is slightly more customizable and includes easy-to-use internet access (Google Trips can be used on the web as well). If you like to participate in the trip and store certain data such as passport and driver’s license, you will love this application.
Both TripIt and Google Trips are available on Android and iOS and are completely compatible with each other. In other words, you can use both apps at the same time without feeling like they are tripping over each other.
