Turn Off Clicking Sound on Type Cover for Microsoft Surface Tablet

Posted on October 9, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on Turn Off Clicking Sound on Type Cover for Microsoft Surface Tablet

Have you bought yourself a new Microsoft Surface in the last couple of days? The Surface is definitely an interesting new tablet, especially if you pair it with the new Touch Cover and Type Cover you can use with it. The touch cover is especially nice as it doesn’t even have buttons like a regular keyboard.

Microsoft recently released a series of advertisements for the “click” sound, which is heard when you pin text or touch cover to Surface. This is a reassuring click sound, so you know the keyboard is connected correctly. An annoying click sound occurs when you enter text on the touchpad, and Windows plays a click sound that makes you feel like you are using a keyboard with real buttons. I guess some people will like this because it will help them understand if they actually pressed a key or not.

However, after several hours of typing, I was quickly annoyed by the fake click sound. Fortunately, you can get rid of this. It instantly reminded me of a time when Internet Explorer made an annoying click sound when you refreshed a web page or clicked a link.

If you want to turn off the click sound when typing on the touchpad or cover, here’s how you do it in Windows 8. I’ll also explain below how to do it in Windows 10. First, you need to swipe out from the right side of the device. on the left to open the Charms bar.

Now you want to click on General on the left and scroll down until you see the touch keyboard. There will be an option “Play key sounds when entering text”, which can be switched from “On” to “Off”.

In Windows 10, click Settings from the Start menu, and then click Devices.

Now you can simply deselect the Use Click Sound checkbox.

As you get used to the new keyboards for Microsoft Surface, you’ll find that you really don’t need those extra click sounds to type correctly. Enjoy your new Surface!
