What Is The Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader And How To Use It

Posted on October 4, 2020 By blog_786 1 Comment on What Is The Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader And How To Use It

When most people hear the name “Kindle“, they are likely thinking of Amazon’s excellent range of e-ink readers. However, the truth is that the Kindle is actually an ecosystem of services and devices. Given the popularity of smartphones and tablets, it is unlikely that many people will buy specialty e-books unless they want the specific benefits that e-paper offers.

Of course, you can just use the Kindle app on your tablet or smartphone to access your collection, but thanks to the Kindle Cloud Reader, you can access all of your Kindle books from any device that has a compatible browser.

What exactly is Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader?

The Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader app is a sophisticated web app that will run on any compatible browser. Amazon recommends it to anyone who doesn’t have a Kindle device or Kindle app on their device. This will help exclude Android and iOS users as the Kindle app is natively available on those operating systems.

For the most part, the Kindle Cloud Reader app lets you do just about anything you’ve done on your Kindle device or app. You can see your entire library, read any of your books, and see any notes or notes that were in a particular book. You can also fine-tune the font size, margins, colors, and more, which is what you’d expect from a decent ebook reader app.

Browser compatibility

If you are using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari, Amazon Cloud Reader should work fine. It also worked fine with the iPad version of Safari, but the Android version of Chrome just redirected us to the Amazon Kindle site.

The only place where this can really be a problem is if you are using a device that no longer receives browser updates. In this case, you shouldn’t go online with it at all!

Best Use Cases for Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader

Since almost everyone has smartphones these days, what’s the point of the Kindle Cloud Reader app? In fact, this is still a fairly up-to-date service, and there are many devices that don’t have mobile apps, but are still pretty good reading devices.

The first and most obvious candidates are laptops. These days, the line between ultraportable notebooks and tablets is rapidly closing. There are also Windows 10 tablets, not Android or iOS. Cloud Reader lets you read your Kindle collection on these devices.

There are also many good reasons to want universal browser reading. Using a Windows, macOS, or Linux computer gives you access to all kinds of important capabilities. First of all, you can use widescreen or specialized display devices. You can even read books on a large TV if you are using a home entertainment computer or another computer connected to a flat screen.

This can be especially important when it comes to accessibility apps. Some people have settings that, for example, will only work on Windows. The Kindle Cloud Reader opens up many possibilities as it makes the Kindle service available on a large number of computers.

How to use the Amazon Cloud Reader app

Using Amazon Cloud Reader is incredibly easy. If you can open your web browser and enter the address, then you are already here. First go to https://read.amazon.com/

If you are not already signed in to your Amazon account, you will be prompted to do so first. Then you should be on the library screen.

The rest of the controls are pretty simple. The bookmark button enables or disables the bookmark for the current page.

Next to it, you will find a button that turns notes on or off. By the way, you can add a note to your book by simply highlighting the text.

The last button will sync your Amazon Cloud Reader app with the farthest page read in this book on all devices.

That’s pretty much everything you need to know to use the Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader. It remains to consider one more important function – offline reading.

Read Offline

What’s the use of an e-book that can’t be read anywhere? If you are using a Kindle device or one of the mobile apps, you can download your e-books to local storage and read them whether you have an Internet connection or not.

The good news is that Amazon has thought of this. The Kindle Cloud Reader app has two main buttons in the library: Cloud and Download.

The first time you click Downloaded, you will be prompted to allow the download.

By enabling it in your browser, you will be able to access your books anywhere, both over the Internet and without it!

Read with your head in the clouds

Now that you know how to use the Kindle Cloud Reader app, there is no reason to stop reading, no matter what devices you have with you. Whether you want to curl up with your laptop in bed in a hotel or read aloud with the class through a projector, Cloud Reader will likely make it possible.
