What To Do If Your iPhone Camera Is Not Working.
The iPhone boasts an excellent quality camera, and the stock Camera app lets you use this lens to take stunning photos. However, sometimes you may find that your iPhone’s camera is not working properly. This happens for a variety of reasons.
If the camera isn’t physically broken, there are several ways you can fix iPhone camera problems. There are both physical and software ways to get your iPhone camera back up and running.
Ensure that the viewfinder is clear of any objects
When your iPhone’s camera is not working, just make sure there is nothing in front of the camera. You may have unknowingly placed something in front of the lens, causing the camera to stop working or displaying a black screen.
Remove the subject and also move the camera to a different position and see if that works.
Close and reopen the Camera app
There may be an issue in the stock camera app that prevents you from taking photos. In most cases, exiting the application and restarting it should fix the problem.
- Press the Home button twice.
- Swipe up on the Camera app to close it.
- Tap the Camera app on the home screen to open it.
Switch between front and back camera
Sometimes, switching between front and rear cameras will fix your iPhone’s camera issue. You can switch to the front camera and then quickly go back to the back, or vice versa.
–
- Open the Camera app on your iPhone.
- Tap the switch icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
- If you used the rear camera, you should now be in the front camera.
- Press the switch again to return to the previous camera.
Restart your iPhone
If you’re having trouble with any app on your iPhone, it’s worth restarting your iPhone to see if that fixes the problem. Restarting fixes many minor software glitches on iPhone and it can help you fix camera problems.
- Press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
- Drag the slider to turn off iPhone.
- Press and hold the power button again to turn on iPhone.
Use the flashlight to fix the camera flash issue
If you’re having problems with iPhone camera flash not working, one way to fix this problem is to turn on the flash as a flashlight. This way you can check if the physical part of the flash is working.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap the option that says Control Center.
- Select the Customize Controls option.
- On the next screen, find the parameter labeled Torch in the list. Tap the + (plus) sign next to an option to add it to Control Center.
- Pull the bottom of the iPhone to open the Control Center.
- Tap the flashlight icon.
- If the camera flash turns on, it means that the physical part of the flash is working properly. If it won’t turn on, the problem is with your flash.
Restore lost camera app with screen time
If the Camera app has disappeared from your home screen, one of the reasons is that the app is locked during Screen Time You or someone else may have restricted your iPhone’s camera use.
Changing the Screen Time setting will return the Camera application to the Home screen.
- Open the Settings app on iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap the option labeled Screen Time
- Tap the Content and Privacy Restrictions option.
- Your iPhone will ask you for a screen time passcode. Enter the passcode and you can log in.
- On the next screen, click Allowed Applications.
- You will see a list of both allowed and blocked applications on your iPhone. Slide the switch next to the camera to ON. This will put the Camera app on the list of allowed apps.
- The Camera application should now be visible on the home screen.
disable VoiceOver to fix iPhone camera
VoiceOver is not directly related to your iPhone’s camera, but turning it off can help fix a camera issue on your device. Keep in mind that disabling this feature means you won’t be able to use it at all on your iPhone unless you enable it again.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap the General option on the screen.
- Select the Accessibility option.
- Tap VoiceOver at the top of the screen.
- Turn the VoiceOver switch to OFF.
- Open the Camera app, it should work.
Update your iOS version
It is highly recommended that you update your operating system version. If your iPhone has an older version of iOS, it’s time to update to the latest version available. It can also fix the problem if your iPhone’s camera is not working.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap the General option.
- Tap the Software Update option that contains your iOS updates.
- Wait while your iPhone checks for new versions of iOS.
- If a new version is available, click Download and Install to install the update on your iPhone.
- Click “Automatic Updates” and enable this option so that your iPhone can automatically download and install new updates when available.
Reset your iPhone Settings
If your iPhone’s camera still doesn’t work, you can reset all settings on your phone. This will clear any misconfigured settings and fix the camera issue.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Click on the General option.
- Scroll all the way down and tap the Reset option.
- Tap the Reset All Settings option to reset all settings on your iOS device.
- Enter your iPhone passcode to continue.
