Calls over Wi-Fi on the iPhone work as a great alternative to the commission and receive phone calls in areas with unstable connection to the cellular network. However several reasons, such as failure associated with the software correctly configured settings and the problems associated with the network, can interfere with Wi-Fi calls.

So if Wi-Fi isn’t working when cellular signals seem weak or unavailable, the list of solutions below should fix it.

Wi-Fi Calling Not Working on iPhone

Activate Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone

If you’ve just finished setting up your new iPhone and can’t turn on Wi-Fi calling, you’ll need to confirm that Wi-Fi calling is active. To do this, open the Settings app and select Cellular. Then tap Wi-Fi Calling and turn on the toggle next to Wi-Fi Calling On This iPhone (if disabled).

Note. If Wi-Fi calling isn’t available in your iPhone’s cellular settings, go to the Apple wireless carrier’s support and features page to make sure your carrier supports the feature.

Activate Wi-Fi Calling for Other Devices

Your cellular carrier can also allow any iOS or macOS device that you’re signed in to with the same Apple ID as your iPhone to make Wi-Fi calls. If you cannot do this, you may not have activated the appropriate settings yet.

On iPhone, go to Settings> Cellular> Wi-Fi Calling and turn on the toggle next to Add Wi-Fi Calls for Other Devices.

Then go back to the previous screen, tap Call on Other Devices, and turn on the switches next to each Apple device you want this feature to work with.

Restart iPhone

Try restarting your iPhone. This usually resolves minor issues that prevent features such as Wi-Fi calling from working properly. However, since iOS has no direct ability to reboot the device, you must manually turn it off before turning it back on.

To do this, go to Settings> General> Power Off and slide the power icon to turn off your iPhone. Then press and hold the side button to restart it.

Eject and Reinsert SIM

If your carrier supports Wi-Fi calling, but you see an option to turn it on, try removing and reinserting the SIM card into your iPhone. This often helps to quickly rectify the situation.

Use a SIM eject tool or curved paper clip to pry out the iPhone SIM tray. Then restart your device before reinserting it.

Update Carrier Settings

Your carrier will periodically release updates to help you fix bugs and introduce new features. iOS installs them automatically. But if the latest update hasn’t been installed yet, you can force-install it yourself.

To do this, go to Settings> General> About and wait about a minute. If you receive a carrier settings update message that says an update is available, click Update.

Update iOS

An iOS update can quickly resolve Wi-Fi calling problems caused by an erroneous version of the system software. So go to Settings> General> Software Update and select Download and Install to speed up your iPhone. If an iOS update is stuck or not working, there are a few things you can do to fix the stuck iOS updates.

Disable Low Data Mode

If you have enabled Wi-Fi power saving mode, it may prevent Wi-Fi features such as Wi-Fi calling from working properly. To turn it off, go to Settings> Wi-Fi and turn off Low Data Mode in the Wi-Fi Information panel.

Check for Wi-Fi-Related Issues

If Wi-Fi calling is configured correctly on your iPhone and you’ve ruled out any conflicting settings that might be preventing it from working, it’s best to check that your Wi-Fi connection is okay.

So, start by going to Settings> Wi-Fi. If you notice an exclamation mark above the Wi-Fi symbol or “No Internet Connection”, this indicates a problem.

You can try to forget and rejoin the same network to fix the problem. To do this, tap the Wi-Fi network and select Forget This Network. Then select the same network and enter its password to reconnect.

If you don’t see anything out of the ordinary, try searching the web using Safari. If the pages are loading slowly or not working at all, fix the rest.

Turn Airplane Mode On/Off

Turning Airplane Mode on and off is a quick way to fix Wi-Fi problems on iPhone. To do this, open the iPhone Control Center and tap the airplane mode icon. Then, after a few seconds, tap the same icon.

Alternatively, you can use the Airplane mode switch in the Settings app to turn airplane mode on or off.

Soft-Reset the Router

A soft reset on your router can also help fix occasional Wi-Fi connection problems. So try this if it’s in a physically accessible location. Otherwise, you can renew your iPhone Wi-Fi rental instead.

You must reconnect to any Wi-Fi networks after the reset procedure. Cellular settings should update automatically in the background.
